I am not seeing that birth on Familysearch. Can you say where he was born please?

Do you know for sure that he was alive after statutory registration began in 1855 please?

Perhaps he didn't die in Scotland, or if he did prior to 1855, the parish/cemetery records haven't been transcribed

Thank you all very much,

Rootgatherer, he was born in Glasgow , I found his birth in the OPR records on Scotlandspeople ,also on the familysearch, I am not good at copying and pasting , is that what it is called ?
All the births you found are my ancestors including my 2x gr.grandmother Agnes.

Astra ,
The 1841 looks good ,, apart from the mother Anne, i have her born in Dollar, Clackmannashire.

Jean, if Agnes is your direct line, can you be sure that the others lived to adulthood?

Have you found any of them on census records please?

Well for what it's worth it looks as though this Robert married a Helen Monteith between 1851 and 1861.

This is the family in 1871 both of their mothers are with them

I have just started looking for Agnes's siblings , thought I would start with Robert as he had a middle name and it might be easier .

I have found Agnes died in 1874 and her mother Anne in 1861.

Was Anne "married to" or "widow of" John please?

Do you have the address where she died?
The address could lead to a possible burial place. As you have an exact date of death for her, you could (if you live locally) look for her burial in the records held in The Mitchell Library. It is then possible to find who else is in the lair.

The Mitchell also have the Poor Relief Records for Glasgow indexed. These could be useful if she was widowed and claimed poor relief as they often give details of surviving family members.

EDIT

What age was Ann when she died please?

Jean

Jean Report 10 Oct 2013 12:40

Thats the one Rootgathrer,

You helped me ages ago with Agnes who married Duncan McGregor , believe it or not I am still looking for Alexander Moore .

Oh, gosh Jean that was a while ago - before i retired anyway. I do hope you are keeping well and glad you are still working on the family.

In that case I know you are not local to the Mitchell. I think that we already got the Poor Relief for Ann if I remember correctly.

Jean

Jean Report 10 Oct 2013 12:49

Anne or sometimes known as Margaret was John's widow , can't find his death either . She died in Stirling Street, Glasgow, her daughter Agnes signed the death cert.

You went to the Mitchell for me Rootgatherer and found Poor relief records for just before she died but the page was blank .

Unfortunately I don't live in Scotland otherwise i think I would be a the Mitchell on a regular basis.
