I brought some credits on SP but i cannot find the death of either Robert or Catherine! Have spent all this time looking, have also looked on Ancestry and Find My Past
Its so frustrating! :-|

Also i have 2 pieces of information that dont match :-S
As above which rootgatherer kindly posted it says Robert was born in 1874 however i have a copy of a 1911 census and it says he was born in 1877.
Is it common for them to get the information wrong or am i back to square one?

If you search on Scotlandspeople for the deaths of Robert Hunter and his wife Catherine, you may find that Isa(bella) was the informant on one of the deaths. If she married you may find out her married surname that way. Female deaths in Scotland are indexed using both maiden and married surnames so can be searched using both surnames. You also have an approximate date of birth for Isa(bella) and this would help to reduce the number of results.

Remember too that there may have been more children born to Robert and Catherine after 1911.

Good luck.

Wow thank you so much every one for your help!
I will pass all of the above on to my nan.
So the mystery still seems to be Isa, as there is only 1 record above.
(Isa Hunter sister of Robert b.1903)

So confusing when everyone has the same name! I really appreciate all of your help and to the people that used your credits :-D

For reference about Scottish Naming Patterns. http://www.halmyre.abel.co.uk/Family/naming.htm

First son is named for the Father's Father.
Second son is named for the Mother's Father.
Third son is named for the Father's Father's Father.
Fourth son is named for the Mother's Mother's Father.
Fifth son is named for the Father's Mother's Father.
Sixth son is named for the Mother's Father's Father.
Seventh through Tenth sons are named for the Father's Great-Grandfathers.
Tenth through Fourteenth sons for the Mother's Great-Grandfathers.

First daughter is named for the Mother's Mother.
Second daughter is named for the Father's Mother.
Third daughter is named for the Mother's Father's Mother.
Fourth daughter is named for the Father's Father's Mother.
Fifth daughter is named for the Mother's Mother's Mother.
Sixth daughter is named for the Father's Mother's Mother.
Seventh through tenth daughters are named for the Mother's Great-Grandmothers.
Tenth through fourteenth daughters for the Father's Great-Grandmothers.

NOTES:

In some cases you will find that the order is reversed with the first and second children, i.e. the first-born son being named after the mother's father and the second-born son after the father's father. If this is the case then the daughters are also usually reversed.

You will also find instances where a child is named 'out of pattern', after an aunt or uncle who has died, or after an admired other relative or friend of the parent.

If a child dies in infancy, his or her name is often given to a subsequent child - a natural consequence of the high birth rate and infant mortality rates of past times.

These are only general guidelines and were certainly not always followed.

Hi thankyou for your reply, yes i believe that the chapel street connection is correct, i have since found LOADS of different information with lots of Roberts and various other people that i am trying to get my head around :-(

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 13 Oct 2013 22:19

Used some credits for Scotlandspeople

1911 - Alexander Street, Cowdenbeath

Robert Hunter, head, 34, Mar., Miner, b. Beath
Catherine Hunter, wife, 29, Mar. 8 years 2 children, b. Dunfermline
Rob. Hunter, son, 7, scholar, b. Beath
Isa. Hunter, daughter, b. Beath.

1903 HUNTER ROBERT ARNOTT CATHERINE W BEATH (FIFE) /FIFE 410/00 0013

If you buy credits for Scotlandspeople (as already has been suggested)) you will be able to view the above marriage and also search for Robert's birth. Shouldn't be too difficult to find as you have his age in 1911 and his place of birth.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 13 Oct 2013 22:05

So do you think that from the information you have that Robert b. 1874 and in 1901 was a Coal miner living at 60 Chapel Street, Beath is the father of your Robert please? That would make the Robert (b. 1851) and his wife Marion your Robert's grandparents.

I have Hilda and Roberts marriage certificate and in 1936 he was 33 years old, an engineer and i can confirm that they did live at 1 Park Cottages and his father was Robert Hunter and he was a Coal Miner

You need to get the marriage cert..........find out the man's age at the time.

If you think he may have been a casualty in WW2...............look for info at.........

http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead.aspx

You will have to spend money on either the marriage cert or SP credits to find factual info.

The cert will cost £9.25 - SP credits are £7.00 for 30

Thank you so much for all of the information you have given me I really appreciate it. I will have a word with my nan and see if she remembers anything else from what you have said.
I'm thinking it is possible that he may have gone away and been killed in action possibly as I cannot find any death register for him on the normal area search.

You are right about Charles he was her brother.
The address I found for Robert Hunter at birth was 60 chapel street, Cowdenbeath

You can also access the 1911 Scotland census on that site.

I have also found 2 records exactly the same with Roberts birth year (1903 i believe) and where he lived however each one has a different name for his father.
One is saying his father is Robert, the other is saying his father is John?

Any suggestions on this?
I appreciate your time :-)
