This is my gg grandfather. He married Ann Freeme in 1851. Had 3 children in 1852, 1853 & 1854, 2 boys survived, but by 1861 his wife was living alone and his oldest son, WF Addey (my g grandfather ) was at boarding school. I have a letter from a distant relative written in the 1940's, when my father my father was doing family research, to say that he was told there was a serious family disagreement, William Addey went to Australia and was never heard of again. It is possible that he was born in Northern Ireland. Does anyone have any information? |

Thank you. I had found out quite a bit about the children and their whereabouts but didn't know about John Henry Addey who died at 12 months. However I didn't know the exact wedding date or details of William's occupation, his parent's names and father's occupation. So thanks for that. I may be able to trace more and fit it in with other distant ancestors (unfortunately there is some variation in the surname and only William appears to have the name with an 'e'.) |

On Williams marriage certificate to Ann Freeme he states his occupation as a Butler..... I would consider the 1851 census that I posted maybe him seeing as the occupation is the same. |

Yes. I see what you mean. I'll see if I can find out more. There is a William Addey listed in the St Pancras area later in the 1800's but by then Ann was described as a Widow. If Rosa was his child it would explain a serious family disagreement! |

Dear Rosemary, my name is Geoff Goodwin from Walcha NSW Australia, A few years ago while metal detecting I found a small brass disc, its about the size of a pocket watch, It has an inscription on it which reads William Addey's Sundial Maitland, I believe and am almost 100% certain this belonged to your relative William Addey, he was transported to Australia in 1837 aboard the ship The Mangles and assigned to C&F Wilson at Tocal near Maitland NSW, I have copies of his transportation details and ticket of freedom certificate. He had tattoos on his left and right arms WAMA & JATA, Please reply regards Geoff. |
