Thank you Choccy, he didn't live long after being discharged from the army did he.

Thank you JoonieCloonie, I'd not heard of the Indian Mutiny.

Very kind of you both to continue looking, very much appreciated.

JoonieCloonie Report 1 Dec 2013 14:26

Given that he enrolled in 1857 I wondered whether he would have been involved in the Indian Mutiny

http://search.fibis.org/frontis/bin/aps_detail.php?id=307122

The Indian Mutiny Medal Roll (British Forces) 1857-1859.
Given Names(s) Amos
Surname Burrows
Rank Private
Regiment or Ship 95th Foot (Derbyshire)

? The timing and regiment suit. And he would likely have been absent from England in 1861 if he was in the military, one way or another.

Sepoy Rebellion
Soon after the Crimean War ended the Sepoy Rebellion broke out in India in 1857. The 95th Regiment was on its way to South Africa and was diverted to India. Over the next sixteen months it marched 3,000 miles through jungle and desert and fought in fourteen actions. Private Bernard McQuirt won the Victoria Cross at Rowa. The 95th remained in India until 1870 after which they returned to England before becoming the 2nd Battalion of the newly formed Sherwood Foresters.

Alviegal I've also just seen those records for York Cavalry Barracks, what are your thoughts on them being the brothers. The records for Amos look very promising, birth place spot on too.

Sylvia I believe you are right.
