I have found WW Smith's parents names on his marriage certificate.
They are William Smith and elizabeth Nestwood.

WW smith emigrated to New Zealand with his family sometime before 1885 as he marriage Eliza Burgess 25 Nov 1885 in Taratahi New Zealand.

Can anyone please help me to find anything else out about WW Smith and when he and his family emigrated to New Zealand?

thanks
Ann :-)

I believe there maybe a spelling error with elizabeth Nestwood's name. i think it is Westwood and i have found a marriage between william smith and Elizabeth Westwood in 1848 in Evesham

It does not appear that his birth was registered.....try looking for a baptism at........

Is the father's occupation noted on the marriage cert?

ErikaH Report 4 Dec 2013 10:05

Emigration records are not available before 1890. You will need to look for immigration at the NZ end

There is also a possible marriage for the parents in 1842..................

Have you any idea when he was born? When you say he emigrated with his family do you mean with his parents?

There is a tree on Ancestry which has a bit on the Elizabeth Westwood who married in Halesowen in 1842. The only thing it has for William is the marriage.

Thanks everyone.
i don't know william wilson Smiths dads occupation.

i believed WW smith emigrated to NZ from UK with his whole family and I will have to look up the immigration records into NZ - thanks for that tip.

There are two records of marriages between WW smith and elizabeth westwood - one in 1842 and also in 1848 - both in worcestershire.

I can't find a 1851 census confirming his parents marriage and the first of many probable siblings of WW smith.

If anyone has access to worcestershire parish records - can you please have a look for me to see if we can track down any siblings and confirm his parents?
Thanks. any help is appreciated. :-)

There is no record of a baptism on FMP.

Nor on familysearch

I can't comment re Ancestry, as I don't subscribe

So it would mean a visit to the Records office, and with no idea of where in Worcestershire he was born, a virtually impossible quest.

Have you proved that the 1848 marriage actually was between the people you name?

Marriages Jun 1848 (>99%)
HOPKINS Richard Evesham 18 469
Morriss Ann Evesham 18 469
SMITH William Evesham 18 469
WESTWOOD Elizabeth Evesham 18 469

Isn't the father's occupation recorded on the marriage cert?

Who were the witnesses?

Have you looked for info about the parents in NZ records?

Gee

Gee Report 6 Dec 2013 11:36

Have you found a birth record for him?

This is the closest I can find using his full name. He could have told porkies about his age when he married?

If the 1936 death is his...........he was still thought to have been born c1855........................but, that proves nothing, of course.
