Find Ancestors

At some stage prior to 1929 I think, the ancestors of Zelma McMullan emigrated to New Zealand from the UK. I would like to know more about those ancestors. Zelma married Colin Cornish, probably in New Zealand. Since I have no access to NZ records I cannot discover the immediate ancestry and grand parents of Zelma. Can anyone help please?

Are you sure about that year of birth? A Zelma Clarissa McMullan was on electoral rolls in 1935!

The year of birth was an approximation. Based upn the ages of present generations. So she may have been older than 1929

She appears as Zelma Clarissa Cornish at Springston Garage from 1946 so she married between 1938 (last ER I can find as McMullen) and 1946 (first I can find as Cornish)

Colin's full name Colin Edwin Hill Cornish

Both on 1978 ER but only her in 1981

If she was able to vote in 1935 she must have been born by about 1914 (at least)

Thank you, you must be right. I have the husband's name as Colin Edward - and I know that there are Hills somewhere in the ancestry - but not sure where or how at this stage. so resume the name Hill reflects that ancestry

I think from this that Colin Edwin's mother's maiden name could have been Hill. If that is the case and the date for Zelma's birth is nearer 1914 than 1929, I can perhaps assume that Colin's birth was probably back in around 1890.

In 1914 Ethel is showing as Ethel Geraldine Tyers McMullan with Lionel in Wellington East.

The 1938 ER shows 2 other people at same address (150 Fitzgerald Ave) as Zelma:

Must be related to her, could provide another lead.
