Hi,
I am trying to trace my maternal family tree. My mother Mabel Cooper b1918, her father was George Walter Cooper b1881, his father was also George, (Walter I think), Cooper b1833, his father was John Cooper c1796. The trail stops here, any help would be appreciated.
I followed someone else's tree by mistake for several generations and am now back to John.
I really want to go further back so I would appreciate any help.

Although the birthdate is a couple of years out this 1891 is also a possibility. The father is a baker, as is George Walter in 1911.

Hi Sheila,
To help us help you, can you please let us know how you got back to John Cooper.
Do you have the marriage certificate for George Cooper and Maria (1878)?
Why do you think that George also had the middle name of Walter?
As your George was an army invalid in 1891, I assume he was the Private who joined the army in 1856 and was invalided out in 1874. His year of birth was given as 1833 (as you mention above) but the censuses show a wide variation on this.
We really need to know what it says on the marriage certificate :-)
