I have the same problem in my GR tree - the inter-connected marriages cause a problem, I have 3 lots of inter-relations who appear on my tree twice. Will watch this space to see if anyone has a solution as I haven't found one!

OH!!!! THAT problem!!!

Sorry-dunno. I'm sure someone has come up with a "hint" in the past, though.

Best,
Maureen

Thanks Maureen

I will try to explain my problem.

I am tracing the Fowkes family - so a couple of years ago, I had a JohnT Fowkes & siblings ( including his sister Annie Fowkes ) established in my tree.

I then discovered that John T Fowkes had a son John Henry Fowkes who married an Elsie Bentley - so I entered them on my tree.

Today, I realised that John Henry Fowkes was in fact the nephew of Tohn T Fowkes sister Annie Fowkes who is also the mother of Elsie Bentley - Annie Fowkes married Charles Enoch Bentley.

So on my tree, I am showing Annie Fowkes as sister of John T Fowkes married to Charles Bentley.
I am also showing John T Fowkes having a son John Henry Fowkes who married Elsie Bentley - but I cant pysically ( on my tree ) connect Elsie to her mum as then I would have two Elsies on my tree - not sure if that makes sense enough for you to visualise???

Help please - how do I round this connection on my tree - do I have to delete some 'characters' and re-enter?

MaureeninNY Report 3 Jan 2014 14:31

No,Gill, that still doesn't make sense to me. :-S

Annie is in 2 different places? Where please?

So...just to wrap my brain around this....
Elsie BENTLEY married her cousin John FOWKES in 1917?

His service records are also on Ancestry. He was the son of John and Susan ...born 1879. John (father) looks as though he was Annie Fowkes BENTLEY's brother.

Chris

Yep - I had honestly forgotten about that posting in 1911!

I am coming back to this part of my tree 2-3yrs later, and am still a bit confused by all the info received. I am tracing the Fowkes family from Leicester and when I got to
a John Henry Fowkes, I noticed that he had married an Elsie Bentley - I had her father as Charles Bentley who married a Anne or Annie - surname unknown. I now believe that this was Anne Fowkes. so on my tree I have two anne fowkes who are one & the same ( I believe)

I have stored it and will sift through it all to try to unravel it.....

but, does anyone know how to link up these tree members as I have Annie in two different places.........( hope that makes sense ).

Leonard Bentley's service records are on Ancestry. He gives his father's name as Charles Enoch Bemtley.

Maureen

Edit: Sigh. BENTLEY. :-)

PricklyHolly Report 3 Jan 2014 11:59

Looking through the census records of the parents Enoch and Catherine....they do not appear to have a son called Charles.

I have no idea why he signed his name as "Charles" on the 1911........but following on from the 1891 and 1901, i would say it is too much of a coincidence for it not to be Enoch!

Perhaps he just peferred the name Charles.

Gillian

Gillian Report 3 Jan 2014 11:47

Hi Stuart & Maureen - sorry - our messages crossed - many thanks forthe info on the addresses........

Gillian

Gillian Report 3 Jan 2014 11:43

Thanks folks ...all info stored for future ref:

I need to confirm or not whether Charles Bentley & Enoch Bently are one & the same person ( or brothers)???

I have found an Enoch Bentley married to Annie Fowkes
also a
Charles Bentley married to either Ann Smith or a Sarah ANN Coulson or a SusANNA Booth or a Hannah Vernon.....all could call themselves Annie.

It is still possible that brothers Enoch & Charles both lived at different addresses in Pasture Lane Leicester. and may have similar childrens names?

Is it possible to check who was living at 31 in 1901?
and who was living at 34 in 1911

This may help answer the question.

This is FMP's version of the 1901 census, with the family at 36 Pasture Lane - I wondered why 34 didn't come up in an address search!
Looking at the original - father Enoch is noted Schedule 57 No 34 House Uninhabited. The 57 has then been crossed out and given to the Rest of family at No 36, the next house, but he remains at No 34!!
