All you nice people found George Barrett left England for USA we think between 1871 - 1874 as his daughter Jemima married in USA in 1874 he is on the 1880 USA census.

all his details are on my first post, was wondering if he is on later census or when did he die?

A lot to ask ,but I'm always appreciative for any help

I tried the Ancestry site, as I only have premium membership to Ancestry, not able to search :-|

Ah well back to the drawing board, unless I get World Membership, but, then I may not get the information I am Looking for so would be a waste of money...

how to find records??

a little difficult for the time period you are looking at.

Ellis Island did not begin to receive immigrants until 1892 ....... the first one through was an irish girl on 1 Jan 1892

The following site does have records of immigrants to the US before Ellis Island .............. I personally have never found anyone!

The problem is that people could enter the US at any port along either coast. OR they could sail to Canada, and then enter at a land border crossing.


Also, unfortunately, the UK Outward Passenger Lists don't begin until 1890

It's going to take a lot of digging!

For those interested, George Barrett was my Great Great Grand Uncle and Jemima was my 1st Cousin 3 times removed...

That's right - the Wrockwardine one was not 'your's'

The family you seek all went to USA between 1871 and 1874 !!

I don't think the Jemima has anything to do with George as the name is spelt BARRATT, and place of birth is Wrockwardine and not Shrewsbury!!

My 1861 Census has Jemima living at home with parents, so it must be correct they all went to USA

What brilliant information, especially from Chris and Safc Thanks to both of you,

AHT Is Anchor Handling Tug for which I am the Captain, I work 28 days onboard and 28 days at home, we specialise in Servicing Mooring Buoys and Navigation Buoys around the UK Coast for certain people which I'm not at liberty to say. So that why I'm busy during the day, also I am due for my leave period this coming Tuesday
