I can't find the actual passenger list to see who Andrew was travelling with. This record is a list of people who were temporarily detained on arrival:

New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
Name: Andrew Mabon
Arrival Date: 28 May 1910
Birth Date: abt 1884
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Caledonia

It says cause of detention "Drs Certificate" he obviously passed whatever inspection they were doing.

He's a miner, marital status is "M" but he gives his next of kin in England as John Mabon, Bolsover? Tce, Pegswood.

He's travelling to his brother-in-law Frances Rostram in Centreville, Iowa.

His WW1 draft gives wife's name as Sarah:

EDIT: I can't find a marriage to Sarah to see what his marital status might have been given as.

Is that the same Mary Jane, as all census have her born USA? (That's if you can believe them)

EDIT: Yes, it figures - she was born 1888 in USA and baptised when they came back to England.

Thanks Linda, but nowt genius about it - just a case of having the right subs! It does show, though, that if we get the back story to a look-up request then we can find better results.

Keep them coming, I always like local requests.
