rootgatherer, thanks for the PM,

If it was known that the birth for mary agnes was NOT in Burnley then why does this thread and Jeans thread state burnley as the place of birth?

Is it realy so dificult to give the correct details when known,

Sometimes its like getting blood out of a stone.

You can search Lancsbmd's as they give mothers maiden name on births before 1911

http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/

Edit, Sorry just tried and it appears they don't on births?

Also find her on the 1901/11 census plus her parents on the 1891 census

People back then were not as literate as they are today different name spellings are often found within family records.

Edit; People simply wrote names down as they heard them said, Keeny and Heaney very simular sound when said with different Accents, Keaney being an Irish name

The name Keeney has many different spelling variations

Examples: Kinne, Keene, Keane, Kayne, Keaney, Keeny, Keyne

What is the place of birth for the ellen gibbons born 1897 on the 1911 census?

If you are searching from the info on ellen gibbons mother of mary agnes gibbons back then you could have the wrong parents, have you found a marriage for ellen gibbons born 1897 and if so does it confirm patrick as her father?

Looking at the birth and death posted by Mary 14:23 it looks like you may have the wrong ellen gibbons,

This ellen gibbons would have also been age 14 on the 1911 census

Births Dec 1896
Gibbons Ellen Liverpool 8b 55

How do we know please, that the mother, Ellen, of the two girls was born in Liverpool? Are we just assuming that as the first child was born in Liverpool that her mother was too?

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 21 Feb 2014 15:21

Could this be a marriage for Ellen?

Marriages Jun 1927
COLLINS Michael Gibbons W. Derby 8b 961
Gibbons Ellen Collins W. Derby 8b 961

Unless you know otherwise it is always possible that Ellen died and that was why the girls were put into care.

The name Ellen Gibbons is quite common so it's difficult to decide which one is the correct one, Their are plenty of possibles but in these circumstances i would start by looking at all those who would have been vey young at the time of birth of the children,

Ellen born 1897 would have been around 23 when the first child was born so not exacty a prime candidate for being an unmarried mother at that time,

Thats just my opinion

rootgatherer , I was also looking at the collins marriage for her
