I can't see a Sarah Gibson on the 1851 census that could be the one with two children in the 1861 census - apart from the Sarah who is with William C. Gibson in 1851.

Perhaps the birth certificate of Clara Gibson born 1852 might be worth seeing in case William is named as her father - and then Sarah left him???

It does look as though John and Phoebe are William's parents.

It sure does Kath.. Will look into this. I see you mention that William is listed on the 1841 census as a stocking knitter.. I'm not seeing it... His mam was a fair age wasn't she.

That's great Chris... I came across this and not sure what to make of it:

1841 census with William and phoebe says:
Civil Parish: Market Bosworth
hundres: Sparkenhoe
County: Leicester
Registration district: Market Bosworth
Sub registration district: Ibstock.
I noticed on the record at the top is says Barleston.

On Sarah Smiths 1841 census, she is with a Thomas Smith (I'm assuming her brother) its says this:

Civil parish: Ibstock
hundred: Sparkenhoe
Registration district: Market Boswoth
Sub registration district: Ibstock

Now I half expected Sarah and William to be in the same neighbourhood and that's how they met, since they married in 1842.. I don't know how this works...am I right in thinking they are living quiet close to each other??

When I said that William Gibson on the 1841 census was a Stocking Maker it actually just says Stocking M. - but the letter "M" on it's own usually means maker in terms of occupation.

Does anyone know where John Gibson could be from? I realise he has died pre 1841 and could prove difficult. :-S

Dea Report 11 Mar 2014 18:18

From a tree on Ancestry it looks like the Sarah we had on 1861 who later married Charles Wood was in fact a Sarah Price who married a George Gibson and certainly that Sarah was still alive in 1881 as I have her on census with husband Charles and son Samuel so we can therefore eliminate her !

Dratt ........... :-(

Ha!!! there were so many Sarah's. I did see Phoebe Gibson on the 1851 census with her daughter Ann who has married a Samuel Hubbard
