Am I right in thinking that sometimes people who hadn't been previously baptised as a child, were baptised just before their marriage?

Or am I making that up!

Trying to get definitive confirmation from records I have.
My gg grandfather Alfred Anthony married Sarah Knight in Chilbolton 1842 before migrating to New Zealand..His marriage certificate lists James ,a tailor as father and Mark Anthony as witness.
I also have death certificate records for a James Anthony,(Tailor) and his wife,Jemiima interestingly both recorded as 26-11-1858 .
Are the latter two parents of Alfred ? If so can anyone assist with other links /ancestors of this family.
