RobertD

In your initial post you have put that you got back to your greatgrandfather using census records.

It is much better to work back using a combination of census records and birth, marriage and death certificates, otherwise some nasty mistakes can arise.

As you said, you do not want to assume anything.

As a lot of information has been given here, you need to copy it all down to double-check that you understand how it has been found and what it all means. Some of it may not relate to your family, but can be given to eliminate wrong leads.

As it is your family it is far more interesting to do the research yourself, and ask for help when you get stuck.

You can go and look at those census entries from the information given, and see what has been written down on the actual images.

Different sites have different records, and you can see the actual baptism images on some.

Mike gave you a link to family search, do you use this?

Travel at your own speed, but also realise that not everything can be found on the internet, and you may have to leave your computer and visit to get to all the records.

PricklyHolly Report 10 May 2014 17:43

I am just about to sign out for the day........but I check back on here tomorrow.

You can see from Thomas's baptism record that his mother is Mary and his father is William occupation Cooper.

Which also ties is with his marriage record....Father William occupation Cooper.

Don't worry about...."I wont ask you any more after this." and "Am I working you too hard?".......To which the answer is No.

It is what we like to do Robert..........so keep asking because it will help you to pick up some tips along the way.

Prickles. :-)

Hi Robert

Most of us helpers use Ancestry or Find My Past to search for records

FreeBMD and FreeReg are also good form BMDs

Susan, dont quite know where i got Benjaman from, but I new i had made a mistake,

thanks one and all for all this info,

Thelma yesterday stated William Dyson was Thomas Dysons Father, but looking under marriages here, is there 2 possibilities in Emley marriages 1811and 1812, also who would be Williams father? wont ask any more after this!
Am i working you too hard?
WII have to do my own homework!

from the new thread, which you should now delete please :-)

First apologies if I have posted wrong, as not the best on the internet,
Carrying on from a thread i started 8th May, I see William Dyson is the father of Thomas Dyson b1817, but which are the correct records to see this,
also Benjaman Dyson is Williams father, again which is the correct record to view.
I realy would appreciate any help here, thanks.
