How strange! Want to post the census and I'll have a look later? My Astons are on my list as "pet project" so why not start now!

That would be great. I am hopeless at copy and paste so I might have to type it all up for you.

Karin Report 21 May 2014 11:31

Hello Jude,
I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to computers so I have typed up what I found:

FMP
1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
Household members
Samuel Constable
Head
Married
Male
69
1782
Sedgley
Engineer

Susannah
Constable
Wife
Married
Female
71
1780
Dover

Susannah's maiden name was Aston as I found the marriage, they married in 1802 in Dudley (familysearch)

The rest of the census mentions a Worsley family who are lodgers and 1 visitor named Arthur Smith.

Sorry, it was on the 1851 census where I found her place of birth, not the 1841 census.
Hope this all makes sense, it's driving me barmy. :-D

No I know, people on GR have a John Aston b1754 as her father but nobody has any evidence to back it up.
I will be going to Dudley Archives in the near future but I can't go to Dover.
Hopefully some more records will be transcribed at some stage.
I'm stuck for the moment. :-(

I don't think it IS Dover...there is a D for David that looks nothing like the D for "Dover"....what it is though I know not...

Constalle is the same family as Constable, it's a spelling mistake.
I am puzzled re Dover, looking at it it could be something else.
I'm currently looking at a map to see any likely places round Sedgley.
There is a Kinver not far from there.

To HeyJudeB4Beatles

Did you get anywhere with your Astons?

Dea

Dea Report 18 Jun 2014 15:57

I have had a look and it 'does' look like Dover to me....

The 'D' is very like the 'D' for Daughter second line from the bottom.

Many of the writer's letters do differ from word to word on the page.

I've tried to find the Susanah Aston relating to Dover and failed miserably. Can you point me in the right direction please.

A Susannah Aston married a Samuel Constable in 1802, Dudley.

There is a 1851 census with this family and children ans it says Susannah was born in Dover.

That is the birth or christening we are looking for.

However, there was also another marriage in 1811 of a Samuel Constable to a Susannah Vaugn and I am wondering if she is the one on the census and therefore the one who was born in Dover?

Samuel Constable

England Marriages, 1538–1973

marriage: 11 August 1811 Saint Marys,Handsworth,Stafford,England

spouse: Susanah Vaugn

Samuel Constable

England Marriages, 1538–1973

marriage: 27 December 1802 Saint Thomas,Dudley,Worcester,England

spouse: Susanna Aston

Thanks for looking into that, I'll leave this thread open to see if Jude has some more info re Susannah.
I think it's the Susannah Aston I'm after.

Andrew Report 18 Jun 2014 21:06

I wonder if Dover could be some version of Ochre/Oker (Hill)? The local accent is very strong (Black Country, I have family there) and even people from the next village/town might have had trouble understanding each other exactly.

Karin Report 19 Jun 2014 17:47

It could be but I'm clutching at straws here, until I find Susannah's parents I'm just guessing.
It is likely that she was born near to where she met and married her husband.
Thanks anyway.

Hitting brick walls sorry. As Reggie asked - how do you get back to this couple?

Karin Report 30 Jun 2014 09:31

Hello,
No worries, I am going to pay Dudley Archives to do some research. If anything positive comes out of that I'll post the info on the site. If not than I'll give up for now.
I got back to this couple through their son Charles b1820 married Mary Ann Cotteril mainly via the census and FamilySearch. Their son James was my husband's great grandfather.
Thanks for looking into it.
Karin.
