OK.
When I say I have researched them well - not entirely true, but not for the want of trying!!
I found several siblings for Eliza whom it has been difficult to trace apart from baptism records - they may well have died of course.
Of those I do have, she isn't with them.
Might have to admit defeat on this one!
Thanks again for all the help, it's been an interesting journey.

Hello Mel & Flip!
Many thanks for the continuing help Flip.
I have had a look for a Birmingham marriage for Eliza, using her father's name, but nothing obvious.
That's a good question about the siblings. I've researched them pretty well, but there are quite a few, so it might take a while to get back to you!

Cheers Mel :-D

Wonder if she would have dared re-marry if she'd stayed local - she obviously wasn't a widow so not free to marry? Maybe just shacked up with someone - and left the son behind with grandparents? Like I said earlier, that would make her impossible to find unless she appeared with any of her siblings (or her son).

Jan have you traced the other siblings through the later census to see if she shows up?

Vincent married Drucilla.

That Eliza Banner married George Dapper 1/10/1842 at St Martins, Birmingham according to familysearch.org - but no fathers named.

EDIT: no wrong marriage, her father was Daniel Banner according to ancestry so not the right one.

I wonder if Eliza married again?? There is this marriage in 1842 but loads of other peeps married the same day.

Thanks again Flip.
The 1841 is very hard to read as you say - might need a bit more attention! But the glassblower link is well worth pursuing.
You are quite right about that 1861 census. William's cousin George is in fact my great-grandfather.

It looks like William stuck to the name Street, I think this is him with Eliza's brother (who was on 1841 census with the parents)

The image is virtually impossible to read, but the person listed above James is a glass blower, and I think James has ditto on the space for occupation:

If she'd died, he would have been free to marry - but didn't appear to do so, although he changed partners rather frequently. And who knows what happened between censuses - there may be even more ;-)

As she appears to leave her son behind with the grandparents, wonder if she was just living with someone and going by his name on later census - she was still very young so not impossible. But impossible to find!

brummiejan Report 8 Jun 2014 11:10

Thanks Flip.
Quite a lad wasn't he! I have never seen someone with a different partner on every census before.
I wonder what happened to Eliza? I have had a bit of a search for her but no luck as yet. I did wonder if she might have died after the 1841 census, but I can't see anything which stands out. There are 3 deaths for Elizabeth (not Eliza) Street/Banner in Birmingham in that time period, nothing for Aston.

Going back to the 1861 census - the other children in case you're interested:

Ann Pricilla was born 17/12/1858, christened same day as Sarah, same parents
Harriet Emma borm 6/12/1855, christened 3/2/1856 - father James, glass blower and mother Louisa

i can't find any of his "marriages" either.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 8 Jun 2014 00:17

Yes I have just seen those.

I can't find a marriage for him to a Pricilla either.

Think he died in 1881. I looked for a probate but did'nt find one.

That rally is a co-incidence isn't it!

I am not sure he married any of these women except for Eliza. There are actually a couple of trees for him on Ancestry - as James Banner - I am not sure they know of Eliza Eccleston/James Street!
