Thanks Gins, it is appreciated, It has got me curious now so I want to keep going, I suppose I will just keep looking until the certificate arrives, before I order the Birth Certificate for Ellen as I want to make sure if there is a fathers name listed. cheers Jk

Are you talking about getting the marriage certificate for Terence and Ellen?

If so, it would give you additional info:

Ages of Groom & Bride
Fathers names/occupations
Home address(s)
Names of witnesses

ok will do, I have ordered the marriage certificate anyway so I will look at trying for the birth certificate of ellen

the marriage cert will not tell you much that Gins hasn't already given you.

WEAR was the MAIDEN name of Winifred Conway, who was Ellen's grandmother

i meant to say I have an auntie with the name Winifred. I never thought about the idea she may not have been legitimate , interesting thanks

I am going to look at getting certificates starting with the marriage certifcate of Terrance Cosgrove and Ellen Conway, 1901 , I am hoping this will give me some details of her parents, i wasn't sure if the name Weir was the last name , it would fit with my family given I have Auntie by that name it also pops up as one of Terrances and Ellen children , thanks

William Conway married Winefred Weir Reg.Sept. quarter 1854 Stockton.
William is listed on the 1851 Census for Hartlepool but I don't have access to check out details...cant find Winefred..(Her Christian name has been transcribed various ways)
I would imagine there were more children that subsequent Census show...but you really do need to get some Certs. to make sure you are not looking at the wrong family.

given the age she is in a the 1901 and 1891 census I gather it works that she was born around that time, but as you say I think I will invest and buy the certificates . thanks for the help

Why do you assume that Ellen born 1878 was legitimate? I don't think she was. Why do you think she is never shown as living with her parent(s)?

Buy a copy of her birth cert.........................

Regarding the info on Ellen Conway, the fathers name would be Conway so then Ellen born 1859 would not be her mother as she would have a different married name or am I wrong. So would there be another sibling to William and Winifred who would be Ellens father. My sights have not offerered any of the indepth info you have provided so it is of big help.

Probable family of Terence 1901...father still alive 1911 living with Dom and family...note surname is "Cosgrave"....only 1 Cosgrave family living in area but plenty Scanlans/ons...possibly Sibby Scanlan Cosgraves family living next door check out Irish Census for Tullaghanduff
