Thanks Flip, Catherine and Alveagar for all the hard work!

i've sent away for the certificate. At least we will know who the mother of the baby was and then we can work from there.

they might not have married but at least we will know the name. then we can cross reference all the excellent info you have gathered.

I'll definitely keep you posted and let you know what I find on the cert. so keep coming back to this post because I'm sure there will be surprises...

One thing strikes me, you said yourself there were 2 Alexanders - and you've got the burial of the other one, so that leaves 1 which makes it feasible for that 1911 census. There was no occupation on his probate, but when Louisa died 23/6/54 her probate went to husband Alexander, retired licencee. That marriage certificate could prove interesting........

Look forward to the next episode!

I think Chris has eliminated the navy guy as he was born in wrong place and was in the navy in 1901, as he was a chief stoker in 1911 I would assume he must have been in for a number of years.

Although I realise you had already discounted him.

Hei Guys! i've just check dmy notes and I've realised I found two Alexander born the same year. I'm sure one died in dec. 1905 and the other I think at a latter date 8can't remember as was the wrong. One I found the burial record of and as I said before the grave owner was the wrong mother but for the other I wrote down in pencil " gone through all cemeteries cannot find him but the relevant page in West Derby burial records is ruined and I cannot read it-need to try order book).

Now...there is still hope then that that dec. 1905 death might be him! But the only way I can find out is by going to Liverpool and have a look in the order book...that is...if it wasn't a common grave...which is quite likely as his father was buried in one in 1901...

However...I've ordered the birth certificate for the daughter...should arrive in a few weeks....

PS: i really NEED to tidy up my notes!!!

Think you can rule out the 1911 census and the probate record for the other Alexander, had another look and he is on 1901 census - a wine & spirit clerk - with his father Charles manager of a public house.
