I have spent a small fortune on certificates over the years. They are all neatly filed but , would you believe that at the moment, I have misplaced or lost our marriage and birth certificates. Think him indoors is a bit miffed that I have been careless with our certificates but can put my hand on certificates for ancestors that have been dead for a hundred years lol :-D

Most of the helpers on here use other sites for research. I do't know that many buy credits on here.

I am logging off for tonight but look back tomorrow to see your progress.

originally I had been doing my research on ancestry.com, and on that website i was able to find her on the wills and probate, but i cannot find the same record on this website. i hoped that by using another website i'd be able to find a new lead!

I've just been trying to find the photograph of her grave but it's elluding me; I cannot for the life of me remember if the gravestone says she was born in 1904 or if she died at the age of 45 in 1949 ... if the latter case was true then that's subject to error probably.

Yip! Not a cheap hobby......but with such a common surname, I am afraid it's the way to go :-)

I wonder if this is it but with a typing error for her age?

Name: Margaret Lloyd
Birth Date: abt 1895
Date of Registration: Dec 1949
Age at Death: 54
Registration district: Carmarthen
Inferred County: Carmarthenshire
Volume: 8a
Page: 262

Did you get her age from a grave marker please?

very nearly just fell off my chair - the certificate would cost almost ten pounds?!

BethanHindmarch

BethanHindmarch Report 23 Aug 2014 23:12

The volume and page number are the reference you need to give when buying the certificate from the GRO.

Thank you rootgather :) with regards to the marriages, is that the only information that is available, or does the volume number and page number relate to another article which would contain more information? as when I "viewed the orginal", it simply stated her name and her spouses names, and the district, but no further information?

do you have any advice with regards to searching for marriages? I've found her on the index, but am I being very dense - is there a means of actually viewing page that is indexed??
