Born 1866 retired from the army 1898 then no more records for him. He m 1887 mabel moore 1867-1925 she m 2nd Jan 1904 Guy grindlay 1868-1930
it was stated she was single & unmarried so i take it he died between 1898 & 1904 but can find no trace

If he had died, I wonder why she didn't say she was a widow when she married in 1904? See she married as Mabel Barlow.

That description of Single and unmarried on the marriage entry is peculiar - all the other women on the same and following pages are described as spinster or widow - there must be some reason why she is described differently.

I did wonder if Harry had disappeared and she had him presumed dead so that she could remarry but I think that can only be done if the person has not been heard of for 7 years and it was only 6 years before she remarried.

In the Divorce Court today Mrs Mabel Barlow was granted a decree nisi on account of the cruelty and adultery of her husband, Capt Harry Barlow, late of South Staffordshire Regiment and also of the Imperial Yeomanry.
Parties married in 1887. Respondent gave way to intemperance and was very violent. He went to South Africa with the Imperial Yeomanry and returned home invalided.
In looking through his things his wife found letters and a photograph of Miss Ada Branson an actress whom he afterwards visited.

The petitioner Mable Barlow of Hagley House, near Stourbridge, Worcester ....married in the parish church Pedmore ....issue of said marriage Harry Loftus born 10/01/1888 and Leonora MAbel born 28/05/1889....Harry frequently committed adultery with Ada Branson otherwise Mrs Cunningham.....that on the 11/07/1901 at 31 Clarence PArade, Southsea Hants the said Harry Barlow charged your petitioner (Mable) with adultery with one George Tullis doctor of medicine and said they were conspiring to kill him and poison him. That on the 11/07/1901 at the above address Harry Barlow forcibly took hold of the petitioner and struck her and threw her down and thereby caused her great pain
