I am trying to trace the elder brother of my grandfather - Albert OR Richard OR Albert Richard Smith. His father has same name(s) combinations !!

'Albert Richard' was baptised on 14th Febr, 1894 in Weymouth, Dorset. He later ran a pub in Bridport, Dorset. He died in there area in 1966.

I am trying to find the pub's name and how long he had the pub for etc.....

I have the reference for his death, but not the actual ceretificate yet.

My late father remembers visiting him in the 1950's with my grandparents, and my gran being charged 6pence for the bottle of water my father had been given !! So much for family hospitality.......

Anyway, if anyone can please help at all........

Many thanks,

Jacqueline

Have you tried googling for the names of public houses in Bridport?

If he died whilst living at the pub, the address will be on the death cert

I've tried googling, but to no avail at present.

I don't know where in Bridport he died. I will have to buy the death cert eventully to find out, but in the mean time...

What local directories are available for that area?

Jacqueline

Ann Cardiff when you copy google search results with incomplete URLs for the links, they aren't clickable and don't help people to go to the sites ... for instance

freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~fordingtondorset/Files/...

anybody who wants to visit that site just has to do the google search all over again to find what you found

it's quite easy to copy and paste a URL ... just put your mouse over the link, right-click on it and then click 'copy link location' or 'copy shortcut' or whatever your browser says, then right-click in the message you want to post it in and select 'paste' :-)

of course you want to be doing the search in a different tab from the one where you are posting the message

(also, and I hope you don't mind me saying it, it can be very helpful to put a number of things, like those search results or the baptisms for a family, in one post rather than separate posts for each one ... that way the thread doesn't reach 20 posts and flip to a page 2 or page 3 quite so fast and it can be much easier to 'follow the thread' :-D it's easy to do even if you edit a post to add the next thing to it)

I think you really need that death cert to see if his home address is on it - then you can see if the pub name is mentioned or if the address can be linked to a pub.

If you get that info then you might find this site helpful:
