that's true Jacqueline, just wondering do you think I should tell my husband or keep it to myself??
he didn't really have a good relationship with his parents.

I just dug out my husbands birth certificate and its says mothers name wicks.
silly question but what does that mean?? I stupidly thought it would say lambert.

A birth cert will always give the mother's maiden name.

Sometimes, If the mother had been married before it will say something like (in this case), mother Patricia Brown, late Lambert, formerly Wicks.

It doesn't 'alway's mention the previous married names though.

Maiden name is BIRTH name for a female

She ceases to be a maiden (in the legal sense) when she marries.

thank you Shirley

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 7 Nov 2014 13:31

NO

Your maiden name was the name you were born with, and if you have children that name is on their birth certs

If for any reason, you marry again, any children you have will have the same maiden name on their birth certs

No Trudy his birth cert is correct his mums maiden name was Wicks but she had also been a lambert by marriage .

Not everyone volunteers that info when registering

No need to apologise we all started our family trees from scratch and have learned how things go as we get more experienced

I have been researching for 13 years and still find info that I wasnt aware of :-)

Jacqueline Report 7 Nov 2014 14:49

No you weren't being stupid at all.

You were unsure, so you asked for clarification, which is very sensible :-)
