Hi thanks for getting back to me you'll have to excuse me I'm quite new to this how do I order the marriage certificate? If she did knock a few years of her age then that runs in the family my Mother is always trying the same trick! My uncle has used the site in the past and has a paper copy of a family tree my Nan started before she passed away. I've contacted him and I'm waiting for him to get back to me. I only know her middle initial is J. My Mum's name is Jane and her sister is Julie so I did wonder if one of them had been named after her. I'm going in to hospital tomorrow so please don't think I'm ignoring you if you don't hear back from me for the next few days. Hopefully my Uncle will be able to help out with the middle name.

rootgatherer Report 4 Dec 2014 09:09

Not seeing a birth under hat name but if the family were RC Josephine may have been added at her confirmation.

This is the nearest I see

Name: Norah Mary Cottle
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 14 May 1893
Father's Name: Harry Bidcock Cottle
Mother's name: Mary Cole Cottle

Hopefully the details from her marriage certificate will help us to locate the correct Norah.

Helen, it's not the one above. She's on a tree on Ancestry married to a different spouse.

Hi again
My Auntie has messaged me to say she has a family tree too. She thinks hers goes back to the 1700's. I'm still in hospital at the moment but she's going to sort it out for me when I get home. Hopefully this will give us the information we need.
Speak soon

HI I've got the family tree from my Auntie now unfortunately it follows the Camden line back 1700's but no more on the Cottle side. Norah Mary Josephine Cottle was born 1898 in Ireland according to this tree.

When I'm more mobile I'm going to go to the library and research some more there.

rootgatherer Report 9 Dec 2014 23:03

Still not seeing a possible Irish birth for her.

We'll see who she names as her father when you get the marriage certificate.

Helen

Helen Report 9 Dec 2014 23:33

Yes I've been looking and can't find her either not sure how long the certificate should take might chase it up.

At last the marriage certificate has arrived!!! Norah Josephine Cottle 22 years old residence at the time of marriage is General Infirmary Castle Street Worcester. I've had a look at the history of the infirmary and there was a nurse's home there where nursing staff and maids lived. So I'm wondering if she worked at the hospital she doesn't have a profession listed on the certificate. Her father was William Cottle and his profession is Gardner. Now to continue the research.

Merry Christmas

I've found a census record from 1911 Hinton on the Green Evesham Worcester with the head of the Household being William Cottle and his profession is garden labourer. He has a daughter Nora Cottle aged 17 born in Evesham so maybe this is her.
