Thanks Chris Ho. Jaqueline has just posted on the previos thread dealing with Gheckleys

My reply, which also answers Maddie#s posts on this thread :-

Thanks Jacqueline, my Registration of a 2yr old has been superseeded by :-

Births Sep 1838
CHECKLEY Charles Southam
16 410

and Southam is the District covering Napton. Looks like I can accept the 1851 you found for me some while ago and accept that Charles was very careless about his age when he joined the army and from then on.

Thank you all,
Frances

Thanks again Maddie. I have had another thought - dangerous I agree -

Births Dec 1840
Checkley Charles Warwick
16 471

I found this birth record a long while ago but at that time Registration was a new thing and the rules were not so strict.
Maybe it is the same Charles as :-

Name: Charles Checkley

Gender: Male
Christening Date: 21 Oct 1838
Christening Place: NAPTON ON THE HILL,WARWICK,ENGLAND
Father's Name: Job Checkley

Mother's Name: Eleanor (Patchett)

Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C04659-1 , System Origin: England-ODM , GS Film number: 502292

so he wasn'y registered until he was 2. Would the certificate include this information do you know?

Thank you for your continued diligence Maddie. Eleanor seems to have been a very popular girls name back then. I have found 4 families with parents Job Checkley and Eleanor within the first years of the 19th century, in census but none of them lay claim to Charles Checkley c.1842 with father Job at his wedding - exasperating isn't it!
How far back have you got with your Yorkshire Patchetts?

Sorry it's getting so confusing!

My original search in FamilySearch was for a marriage of the parents, Robert and Mary, c.1795 and the Robert that this thread has concentrated on is their son

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 13 Dec 2014 15:41

Uh oh! Methinks my little grey cells aren't working today. I'm getting my generations mixed up, aren't I? The Mary who died in 1840 was Robert's mother not his first wife?

Right!

Warwickshire, England, Baptisms, 1813-1910 about Robert Patchet

This isn't making sense!

Mary died 1840 but Robert married Sarah 1839 and had a child with her in 1838.
