This might prove useful, the online parish clerk for Somerset including Bristol. It isn't loading properly on my iPad so I can't do any searches.

I cannot find any of them in 1901! I think the birth certificate of George Edward would be a good acquisition - it would pinpoint them in April 1900 at least!

Glad you found Walter was also William as his birth record might help to find him!

Births Jun 1868 (>99%)
TAYLOR William Hooke Thornbury 6a 196

Edit. Sorry Jude missed your query, it's hard to pin him down especially if his death is recorded as William rather than Walter, there's so many of them. I'm surmising he died between 1900 and 1903 but of course there may be some untruths somewhere along the line..........

Has anyone found a death for Walter Hooke Taylor?

Yes - it seems certain that the three boys all survived and therefore they MUST be somewhere in 1901. And if we can find them we surely must find their parents!

and Fred 1901 of course, as he is alive in 1911

How obvious about "Butler" - missed that also,... thanks a mil .. lovely daffies :-)

Have downloaded from this site, Charles Tomas, original reads Chalse, living in house of Watkins (name not known to me at present). He is boarding and a baker, pastry cook. Interestingly he gives his birth place as St. Paul's, where he can probably remember living when his brother George Edward was baptised in 1900, although he was baptised in St. James.... However, this was near enough for me.

Two siblings down, couple to go, .. but I also believe at the moment that Elsie may have died.

That leaves George Edward 1901, William/Walter Taylor 1901 and Amelia/Kate Taylor 1901.

Wonderful progress :-) :-) :-)

This is George Edward with his birth date....so where was he in 1901? And Fred come to that (Fred's dob 28/11/1898), Elsie 11/06/1894 (there's an 1898 death that matches this). Also think I found Charles as Chasrl Tomas in 1911

Name: George Edward Taylor

Baptism Date: 11 Jul 1900
Baptism Place: St. Paul, Bristol, Gloucester, England

Mother: Amelia Kate Butler

Reference ID: yr 1887-1985 p 70

I'm supposing that in Amelia Kate B Robins/Taylor etc, the B stands for Butler, and perhaps in George's baptism all three forenames, ie Amelia Kate Butler, have been used, in the other baptisms they've just settled for Amelia/Emilia Kate.

Gillikins Report 16 Apr 2015 19:06

Hi Readers and Willing Helpers.

As this enquiry was about Amelia Kate Robins, I guess it has been answered, after being given a clue about her son Fred Taylor, who appears on census 1911 with his aunt, Amelia's sister that is, and 2nd husband, and he is declared a Widower.

Following up Fred on FamilySearch, was a revelation :-

However, it now throws up even more mysteries, about which, if I cannot solve them, I will be back in a subsequent post.

However, I have found siblings for Fred as baptisms, Charles Thomas and Elsie at St. James Bristol baptised the same day, but not twins I think... Frederick William baptised 1898 at St. Barnabas, Bristol (some typo with his birth date as he would be 20!!) and George Edward 1900 at St/ Paul, Portland Square, Bristol ... a good clue for 1901...

All the first three, parents names WILLIAM HOOK TAYLOR and Emilia Kate or Amelia Kate/Amilia Kate.
George however, is a bit of a shock - Parents WALTER HOOKE TAYLOR (as wedding entry on bmd) and Amelia Kate BUTLER, ... that is Amelia's mother's MAIDEN NAME.

Still no 1891 or 1901...

But thanks folks. ;-) <3

Thank you all for wonderful thinking material ... the truth is there SOMEWHERE

to reply to your comments, Jooleh ... yes that is the Robbins/Biddle marriage in 1886, and I have the image of that 1911 with them on.. saw the Taylor reference but it didn't seem to add up as Fred Taylor is said to be a son (ok you can call him son) but is 13, and therefore younger than the Biddles (who are lodging with William Tadd) one daughter, Eva G, probably Gwendoline, admitted as 18! And SO MANY TAYLOR'S IN THE WORLD. My confusion was - who's son is he ? and so was dismissed for a time.
It could be as you say, that he is the son of William Tadd (in name only). William admits to being a widower, and having nine children. Am I thinking correctly that he married Amelia Taylor, with her one son, she dies and William calls him "son" on 1911? Thanks for this .. I couldn't see it before.

Also I chased around the marriage mates on census with Amelia with Taylor and also Tadd and didn't come up with concrete results.

A birth for the Taylor chappie could have been misheard, and I didn't know his origins, births found Walter Hirst Taylor 1876 Yorks, Walter Cook Taylor 1856 Stepney, Walter Turk Taylor, 1862 Glocs.. and so I left that trail.

Incidentally, I have Amelia's baptism record, and school entry, as Amelia Kate .. so the "B" bit probably was added at marriage... yes I know they did do that sometimes.

Kucinta, thanks for that .. I have looked at that one too.

All comments gratefully received ... me brains exhausted !!! G
By the way, Genes Community is Great..freecen 1891 i find Walter Taylor head M age 22 wheelwright livinghigh street kenton, st. thomas devon, but no wife. there might be something in this somewhere because there is a Thomas Biddle in the next house or two, and Bidgoods

p.s. FREECEN..1891 I find Walter Taylor head M age 22 wheelwright living high street kenton, st. thomas devon, but no wife. there might be something in this somewhere because there is a Thomas Biddle in the next house or two, and another name connected to the family somewhere, linked on Genes.

So it's possible Amelia married Walter Taylor and they had a son Fred. She then married William Tadd but he is widowed by 1911 so Amelia may have died between 1903 and 1911.

Although the age is slightly out this could be her:

Deaths Mar 1909 (>99%)
TADD Amelia 35 Bristol 6a 46

If everything I've posted is correct Amelia would be Taylor in 1891 and 1901 but I can't find her.

Hi

This is the info I was trying to post earlier:

Is this the marriage for Amelia's sister Eva?

So this is them in the 1911 census:

Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871
Relation to Head: Lodger
Gender: Female
Birth Place: Ilfracombe

Marital Status: Married
Occupation: House Wife

(Their ages are way out, they've lost a few years in in each census! In 1891 Eva is shown as 27, then 35 in 1901)

Going back to the marriages posted by Mike:

Misty, thanks for your patience and help... it helps to discuss and think also. I have even tried looking for Amelia with no surname, and ended up with many names on 1911 census, which I cannot link to previous ones... my notes are a minefield.

Your suggestion about Amelia and Edward E Britton, I have downloaded, as it seems to make sense, and is a real possibility ... given considering family residency.

it seems to me there is much missing on FreeBMD, on which we all rely... here is one I found on Ancestry (I don't have a subscription) ...and can't find on bmd.

There are many misspellings, and typos to cope with,...and missing partners ... perhaps is the case with Hill...

fp - marriage in 1887 of Amelia Robbins, Clifton, St. Andrew Bristol - I cannot find this marriage on FreeBMD !! even searching with Districts, as I think Bristol hopped between somerset and glos at some point.

Comments welcome. Gill

Just seen your discussion about posting problems, as it has appeared here in my watched threads. Just to say... Eva Jane Biddle was the sister of the above said twins, the firstborn of the siblings. She appears on the death certificate of Winifred, the child of her brother Frederick William Robbins in 1901, just after the census. Eva was then living in Bristol, and the death of Winifred occurred in Cardiff. Hope this helps.
