I don't see a Tiber Gardens (was Tiber Street renamed when area was redeveloped?), but I've checked 1935- 1937 on Tiber Street, Islington and I don't see a Patrick McEvoy listed.

Patrick im told was in the merchant navy or was going with the navy about 1936 to NZ or Austraila if this is any help Fredas cert only has her mums name

If.........and I mean IF.........her father is the Patrick born 1905 it does actually make sense.

You know........Patrick leaves his wife Esther and family to work in a hotel in London and has a fling with Laura.

He might not even have told Laura he was married. (You did say you thought he was single and who knows what other lies he might have told her?) Perhaps Laura didn't tell him she was expecting a child. I very much doubt that Patrick would have told his family about the child even if he knew that Laura was expecting.

As mentioned earlier........perhaps Laura knew that Patrick was married and the story told to Freda about him being born in Cork, Ireland and then emigrating to Australia was a kindness to her daughter.

Pure speculation of course........but it does make sense.

(Or maybe I have been reading too many Catherine Cookson novels!!) :-D

I think the first port of call would be for Freda to purchase a copy of her birth cert to see if it provides any information regarding her father.

Having said that.....as her birth was registered with MMN Brand, I doubt he is on there.

Unfortunately, the Patrick Albert Mcavoy born 1905 does not appear on the 1911 census.

Idont know if it will help any but Laura and Patrick were working together in a Hotel in London in 1935/6 Freda was born Nov 1936 she came back to Kendal..Also all she knew was he had a few sisters

If so........exactly what information does it give regarding her father?

Yes could be because it was just a short fling ..never thought of that because Carlisle is quite close and its thought he was working away from home

Presume she has her birth cert .how did she know the dads name ? If her mum told her maybe she was given other info about him

So the daughter is Doreen but transcribed as Doreeh

Laura died in 1995 if she did not marry

She was Laura Brand born 1907 in Cumberland but but her daughter was Brand too don't think Laura ever married so they were both oldish
