Thanks Jacqueline. I'll see if he wants to take up that option.

Much appreciated.

To go any further back with the mother's line, the 1916 birth cert will be needed

So glad you're on track :)

I know Mike, and I should have known better but when someone says their family name is Mead you automatically assume it to be their natural child or they would tell you otherwise. Or not, as in this case.

Thank you for all you help in this though.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 10 Jun 2015 17:02

Richmond isn't exactly far away!

Perhaps the Meads lived in Loftus, and she just said she 'came from' there

If the Alderson birth is correct
she wasn't " born in the Loftus area of Yorkshire/Cleveland " then after all.

Be wary of what family members think they know !

Too many potential mothers in 1911 to be able to pinpoint a likely one

Lindylu

Lindylu Report 10 Jun 2015 16:57

That would seem the case wouldnt it Jacqueline? A single mother. Glad there were some decent people about. :-)

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 10 Jun 2015 16:54

She married as Alderson.............

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 10 Jun 2015 16:51

Could this be why the Meads 'took her in'?

Too early for formal adoption, of course

Lindylu Report 10 Jun 2015 16:50

Youre not wrong there Jacqueline!

It would suggest then that Amy was in fact called Alderson, and maybe she registered one of girls birth whereas maybe her husband did the other two and automatically said Mead because he'd always known her as Mead.

Thanks to all you guys for your help and patience, I really do appreciate it.

I think the tree just withered....................

Jennifer's (born 1950) MMN was ALDERSON.....................

No other birth with the same MMN

Seems you've opened a real can of worms

Christine's birth has MMN Mead

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 10 Jun 2015 16:37

And the ones who married in 1906..............I'd hoped that Albert would have been with the other woman on the page. No such luck

Okay, curioser and curioser.

Friend just got back to me. Sheila has two sisters, Jennifer and Christine.

After all the searching he has told me that Amy was 'taken in' by the Meads and was never formally adopted so I think I can kiss that one goodbye. Honestly, some people think we can work miracles or are mindreaders.

Amy did have a 'brother' (natural son of the Meads) called Cyril who died about 30 years ago.

Edit: Strangley, when looking at Sheila & Christines births they both have the mothers maiden name of Mead but Jennifers mothers m/n says Alderson. That was actually picked up on by one of the posters earlier wasnt it?
