Hello SylvaininCanada.
An interesting point. It would explain why I am having problems tracing her.

I wonder if what we have is a case of a man wanting an heir??

That, in fact, he did not marry Clarissa, but came to some sort of "common-law" arrangement with her about her having a son for him?

David

David Report 27 Jun 2015 13:21

further to my last reply it does say formerly Fisher.

David

David Report 27 Jun 2015 13:16

sorry i put her names in the incorrect order.

I wondered if James had gone to the States and found Clarissa, but there is no record of his having travelled

Oops........... I see now that Sylvia had already looked for incoming records, without success.

According to birth certificate Thomas George Buckle is the son of Clarissa Millicent Olivia Buckle.

David Report 23 Jun 2015 14:33

I have ordered the birth certificate for Thomas George Buckle to find out if Clarissa Olivia Millicent Buckle is his mother.

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 22 Jun 2015 18:35

The only way to find out if Thomas George is her son would be to buy the birth certificate

I can not find any wills for James or Sarah Buckle. Have found a Clarissa Fisher in USA census for 1880. She was born about 1878 in Grayson, Virginia which is not too many miles from Huntington Virginia. Cannot find her in USA 1890 census as it was destroyed in a fire. Can find no reference to either James visiting the USA or Clarissa visiting the UK. Will keep trying to find more references to Clarissa. Thanks for your help. David

Of course the enumerator may have made a spelling mistake but in the one census she is found she declares her borthplace to be HuntingTon (not Don)...the only England village is in York.

So there may be something in the USA connection.....and let's face it Clarissa Olivia Millicent is very American

Did either James George or his first wife Sarah Anne leave a will?

I've been looking on ancestry and can't see them shown under probate.

loving a puzzle ... :-)

just wanting to check ... daughter Olivia Millicent's birth certificate gives mother's name as Clarissa Olivia Millicent Buckle formerly Fisher?

technically that would make Fisher her birth name ... if she had been previously married there would be a "late Smith" sort of entry ... unless, of course, she was still married and fudging it!

also wondering whether the birth certificate for the son has been obtained

Births Jun 1903
Buckle Thomas George Kingston 2a 387

to verify the mother's information there

Thank you to everyone who has tried to answer my conundrum. You have all found the same information as me. James George Buckle first wife did die in 1896. If my Grandmothers birth certificate is correct and he did marry again I am assuming that it was between 1896 and 1900 although I am beginning to believe that he did not marry for a second time. Thanks again for your input.
