It is confusing on this thread because the original poster is called Yvonne and there is another Yvonne trying to help.

It certainly is stupid.

I don't think GR care at all about this site (or their own rules and regulations). I only realised there were two Yvonnes when the posts didn't seem to make sense.

It's the reason that I have such a stupid board name. They wouldn't let me use my name Margaret because there was someone else with that name. Likewise for Marg and Margie, 2 other names that I'm known by. I had to choose the silly spelling Margee in order to be accepted.

There was no control on how many people used the same "name" in the early years of GR ................. that is why you see so many Davids, for example.

They did decide ca 2009 to tighten up on this and not allow more than one member to have the same name. However this only applied to new members, or those who tried to change their Board names.

That policy seems to have slipped by the wayside in the last couple of years .............. witness Jacqueline who joined in 2014 and was allowed to use her name even though there is at least one more Jacqueline posting who has an older membership number.

Who knows how many people are using the same name?


I do notice that we have a lot of people with old membership numbers suddenly posting on the Boards, which implies that they were free members who have now upgraded, and there is a new crop of multiple names.


When I joined in 2004, there were at least 3 people called Sylvia posting on the Boards. I wasn't worried until the day that I was accused of having been nasty on General Chat ............ a board I had not even been on at that point.

That's when I changed my Board Name to Sylvia In Canada :-)


Fortunately, the "nasty" Sylvia left GR some years ago

I just tried to change my board name again. It still won't allow me to use Margaret, Marg or Margie.
