thank u all for your help sorry for delay
some facts
Joseph Henry Baker died in 1906 in the East Murchinson District of western Australia in 1906 I HAVE SENT FOR A DEATH CERTIFICATE but I am not to hopeful of much info being on the death certificate I may be wrong
The article for his wifes death in the West Coast Sentinel I am aware of and this has added to the meagre information I possess.
I have a copy of the wedding details which show his father as being ALFRED
and that Joseph Henry was listed as 23 yrs old also he was a blacksmith

Have you got the death certificate of JOSEPH HENRY BAKER? I know after 1907 in SA on the death certificate it should record his birth place & how long in the colony.

Potty

Potty Report 26 Jun 2015 12:12

I think you are correct with that Joseph in the 1861, Gritty. Ruarden is in the Ross Reg District. He is on the 1851 as Henry.

Gritty

Gritty Report 26 Jun 2015 10:07

I think this is the Joseph Henry born Ross, with father JOHN (Ross on Wye falls between Hereford and Gloucestershire. They were living in Gloucestershire in 1861- but note that registration district was Ross.):

Such a shame this doesn't give further details of Joseph:
West Coast Sentinel- Friday 17 April 1942
LONG LIFE OF MRS. CAROLINE BAKER
Mrs. Caroline Baker, who died recently at Streaky Bay, was born at Second Valley 87 years ago. When a young woman she moved with her parents to Port Pirie, where at the age of 22 years she married the late Mr. Joseph Henry Baker, a blacksmith and wheelwright. Shortly after their marriage, the couple spent two years at Nelshebie Reservoir, and later removed to Franklin Harbour, where Mr. Baker allied farming with his trade.
At the beginning of this century, Mr. Baker went goldmining in Western Aus tralia, where he fell a victim of typhoid fever. After her husband's death, Mrs. Baker lived for a. while with her mother, the late Mrs.William Newbold, of Cala.
That was about 35 'years ago. 'Her next move was to keep house for her two brothers at Challana—Messrs. Jack and George Newbold. Nine years ago Mrs. Baker retired to Streaky Bay with her daughter. Miss Jessie E. Baker. During her lifetime seven children were born, three of whom survive her—Miss Jessie, and William A. (of New Zealand) and Arthur E. (of Queensland). Two sons were killed in the First World War.
During her retirement in Streaky Bay, Mrs. Baker lived quietly. Before her death she had been ailing for some time. During her last years she was carefully and lovingly tended by her daughter Jessie.

Why not try contacting them all?

They may be able to give you info

You still haven't - as far as I can see -answered the question about ALFRED's occupation.

Baker

Baker Report 25 Jun 2015 14:37

I have only contacted one tree at this time who is a cousin of mine in new Zealand and have advised him that I will appraise him of more details soon

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Jun 2015 14:04

Three GR members apart from you have Caroline in their trees. Are you in touch with them?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 25 Jun 2015 14:01

Did you read the info about registration?

Baker

Baker Report 25 Jun 2015 13:58

I have ordered a birth certificate and await its arrival to see the fathers name

Baker

Baker Report 25 Jun 2015 13:56

I believe I have answered the questions
as I have mentioned ALL sites that mention that ALFRED BAKER ( the one who arrived in 1846) and his wife Elizabeth Ann Poolman are wrong as u have also found out all the children are born in south Australia and one girl in 1854 the same date everyone chose for JOSEPH HENRY BAKER birthday without any documentation for him.
having obtained a copy of his wedding certificate it shows he was 23 when married in 1876 and by deduction(as all leads here are dry) his origins are from ENGLAND and the only birth that lines up is 1852 Ross, Herefordshire.

Jacqueline Report 25 Jun 2015 12:26

I do wish you'd answer questions asked in an effort to help you........................

I have edited my original post which now reads JOSEPH HENRY BAKER

Baker

Baker Report 25 Jun 2015 09:16

my apology to everyone my very first listing I put my great grandfathers name wrong it is
JOSEPH HENRY BAKER

Baker

Baker Report 25 Jun 2015 09:13

this is what I have found and why I started a new tree called Baker 2015
and saving the old main tree as Alfred Baker and Elizabeth Ann Poolman as I traced that Alfred right back and I am removing all of Joseph Henry descendants from that tree
