That looks like John and his mother.
I have John's marriage certificate in Glasgow which shows his mother Mary King and father James Wright but I have not as yet been able to find his parents marriage.

Perhaps they never did marry Jean.

She's still unmarried.

I think you must be right , they did not marry, according to John's marriage cert he is aged 22 so would be born c 1845 .

Also can't see James Wright in 1851-61 censuses

If you look on Scotlandspeople at the image of the baptism for the child John Wright baptised in 1839 that should tell you if he was the lawful son of James and Mary.

The fact that Mary used the surname King in 1851 and stated that she was unmarried, it maybe that John was illegitimate.

Possibly Mary in 1841, with a brother Jonathan ???

Possibly the (maybe ) son John ??? Southwick was Colvend - the parish was called Colvend and Southwick..

I thought the John baptised 1839 had possibly died and that is why the 1845 one is also called John.

Yes, you're probably right, alviegal.

Sorry don't know anything about Mary King apart from her name on her son's marriage cert , although it does show her as Mary Wright m.s. King dec'd.

The census alviegal has found seem to fit in with names and d.o.b's for Mary and John, not sure about the 1861 though where it shows John's occupation as servant , on his marriage lines his occupation is Merchant seaman.

as you can see I am still looking for ancestors , although this lot are not really connected to my Moore's but to my McCluskey's who are another headache.

If the child baptised in 1839 had the same Mary King as his mother then she would have been very young when he was born.

You could be right alviegal, I will have to have a look on Scotlandspeople as rootgatherer suggested .

My McCluskey's are from Ireland but all settled in the Anderston district Glasgow .
John Wright married Margaret McCluskey in Bridgeton in 1867 .
