Thank you Chris for the Googling, it's a great site but again I can't be sure if they are my Wright's as going by the 1841 census for James the schoolteacher he was already married to a Janet .

Jean Report 10 Jul 2015 21:44

Thank you all for your replies.
ArgylleGran, yes that's the marriage , sorry about the christian name Margaret is Elizabeth's sister.
I too can't find Elizabeth and John on any census but I did find Elizabeth with her 3 children Henry, mary and John jnr living with Elizabeth's brother Felix McCluskey, he is the head at looks like 74 Kirk Street, Glasgow.

safc,
The 1841 looks good as it shows James Wright occupation Teacher, which would coincide with his son John's marriage lines.
Not sure about the 1851 though.

This will be the marriage you meant for John, Jean.

Her name's Elizabeth, not Margaret. She's 22, same as John. Father Henry, mother Helen nee Butler. Witnesses: Daniel Butler, Ellen Mccuskey, and John black (the priest who performed the marriage).

I still can't find either of them in censuses - nor her parents.

Not sure it's the same John, though. Seems more likely to be the one born in 1839, son of perhaps totally different Mary King and James Wright.

The 1861 census I posted on page 1 will also be this John Wright.

Hi rootgatherer,

My McCluskey's are from Ireland but all settled in the Anderston district Glasgow .
John Wright married Margaret McCluskey in Bridgeton in 1867 .

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Jul 2015 22:03

I'm very well thank Jean. I hope you are too.

Now, if they are Irish McCluskeys that settled in Dumfriesshire, I hope you have more luck than I had with my Irish lot who settled in Wigtonshire.

Jean

Jean Report 9 Jul 2015 21:59

You could be right alviegal, I will have to have a look on Scotlandspeople as rootgatherer suggested .

That will have to wait till tomorrow off to bed now, thank you all for your help .

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Jul 2015 21:58

If the child baptised in 1839 had the same Mary King as his mother then she would have been very young when he was born.

Jean

Jean Report 9 Jul 2015 21:56

Sorry don't know anything about Mary King apart from her name on her son's marriage cert , although it does show her as Mary Wright m.s. King dec'd.

The census alviegal has found seem to fit in with names and d.o.b's for Mary and John, not sure about the 1861 though where it shows John's occupation as servant , on his marriage lines his occupation is Merchant seaman.

Hi rootgatherer, hope you are keeping well.
as you can see I am still looking for ancestors , although this lot are not really connected to my Moore's but to my McCluskey's who are another headache.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 9 Jul 2015 21:50

Yes, you're probably right, alviegal.

alviegal Report 9 Jul 2015 21:48

I thought the John baptised 1839 had possibly died and that is why the 1845 one is also called John.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 9 Jul 2015 21:44

Possibly the (maybe ) son John ??? Southwick was Colvend - the parish was called Colvend and Southwick..

Admittedly, he wasn't the only John Wright born in the area about 1839-ish.
