If that is the right Mr Munro then you need Scotland's people for any marriage .

Presume you have checked on FreeBMD for any possible marriage in England /Wales

ArgyllGran Report 22 Jul 2015 21:54

This is the only possible birth in Scotland 1920-25, per ScotlandsPeople, but you'd have to buy the cert to check parents' names, assuming you know them:

1922 MUNRO MURDOCH M KIRKINTILLOCH /DUNBARTON 498/00 0246

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 22 Jul 2015 21:58

In that 1949 travel record posted above by Jacqueline, Mr M Munro was travelling with Mrs C F Munro, of the same address, aged 25, no occupation.

I don't see a marriage for Murdoch in Scotland at any time

EDIT:

If Mr M and Mrs C F married in Scotland, then this must be the record:

1947 MUNRO MARTIN
CLEMENTS CARMEL FAITH
PARTICK GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/14 0358

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 22 Jul 2015 22:22

So that rules out that record.....I did give details of the female :-)

Whoever is asking for info would be well advised to get a copy of the death cert

He or she must have a connection.......what is it?

Trevor

Trevor Report 23 Jul 2015 13:35

I am in contact with a lady in Australia whose distant relative is Murdoch Finlayson Munro born 12 June 1922 in Scotland and died 1 May 2001 in Melbourne . Rumour has it that he was a crew member on a ship and jumped ship on reaching Australia. My contact has found his death details from Cemetery Lists but has received no reply to her requests for information from their suggested contact the Sacred Heart Mission in Victoria. He was working as a Barman in the Melbourne area but we still have no idea whether he married or not.

Many thanks to all those who have done some research for me since yesterday, hopefully we can, between us, find more information on his time in Scotland. Otherwise I fear she could be in the same position as me in trying to find Florence Gertrude Furbank who is listed in the 1901 Census but no other Census. I do have her marriage certificatefrom 1891 but still cannot track her before 1891 although she was allegedly born in Chatham, Kent.

ArgyllGran Report 23 Jul 2015 15:07

To avoid (more) duplication, anyone thinking of researching Florence Gertrude Furbank should have a look at these links first, and add to one of the earlier GR ones, rather than here, as not relevant to search for Murdoch:

rootgatherer Report 23 Jul 2015 22:02

If he jumped ship then perhaps he altered his name? There is no birth registered in Scotland for Murdoch Finlayson Munro born. 1922

Gritty

Gritty Report 24 Jul 2015 07:11

Hello Trevor, as rootgatherer said, there are no births in Scotland that match the details you've given. If the lady in Australia is distantly related then she probably has more details on his family -she must know how she is distantly related? through a cousin, his parents, a sibling?- perhaps we can trace more information on him by knowing how she is related.

MarieCeleste Report 24 Jul 2015 09:15

I just can't equate Martin Munro who was a head teacher in NSW with someone who was a barman in Melbourne.

This might be worth pursuing:

Fremantle, Western Australia, Passenger Lists, 1897-1963
Name: Murdock Munro
Departure Place: Christmas Island, Line Islands
Arrival Date: 25 Sep 1949
Arrival Place: Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia
Vessel: Islander

No age or country of birth given. Address in Australia was to be RAAF Station, Laveston, Melbourne.

EDIT: There were 19 other men all heading to that Air Force base. May have been airmen or going in some other capacity.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 24 Jul 2015 09:40

The detailed info clearly ruled out the QUERIED migration I posted.

So not sure why it has been pursued

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 24 Jul 2015 09:43

If the poster's contact is related, we need details of how she knows about this man

Surely his death cert is the obvious document to obtain............
