Hello everyone,
I am trying to find information on my husband's Grandfather Ronald Settle. I did a record search and there are 2 that appear in the 1911 census records.Although the census has the year of birth as 1910 and on his travel documents his birth is 1909. Is there any way to find out which, if either, is the correct one? I don't know if he had siblings as my husband was only a child and doesn't remember his Grandfather mentioning any. I have also found records of him travelling with his own family to Mombasa, which is definitely him. I also am looking for information on his wife Winifred Tucker, (mother nee Booth). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :-)
Cheers Kathryn

You need the marriage cert to Winifred for his father's name .you should then be able identify him on the 1911 census
If you don't have that info the others can't help I,m afraid
Don't forget the ages on census are at the time the census was take so anyone born after the census moth will show as a year younger as they hadn't had a birthday for the census year yet

He didn't marry with a second Christian name so the first death looks more likely

There is another Passenger List to Mombasa in 1956 which shows Ronald and Winifred and Family
Departure Date 14 Dec 1956 Ship Name Kenya
Date of birth given for Ronald is 20.8 1909. So your Ronald is the one that died in Yeovill without a middle name.
Winifred Mary Settle DOB 14.8.1912 Names & DOB given for 3 girls. There is a possibility that the girls could still be alive so if you would like these details too send me a Personal Message and I will supply.
Looks like they were heading for Uganda.

Absolutely a good company as it was part of Unilever the multinational company . I am a Unilever pensioner
It had divisions like Birds Eye , Ponds , which looked after the various branches of Unilever . I worked for them for 30 years firstly at Unilever House ,then in another building across Blackfriars Bridge that housed the United Africa Company which traded mostly in West Africa but in other areas too. It's was later renamed UAC ltd because of its diverse areas of trading
Sorry no I didn't know Ronald as I didn't start there till 1952
UAC was a huge separate company and we occupied a nine story building and they too had various divisions within the company

Hello Gritty,
I have been following up on information supplied by you wonderful people. It was a while ago but you posted this in my post
Yorkshire Post and Leeds Intelligencer - Monday 03 October 1932

I was wondering if you have access to the full article as I cannot find it anywhere. It could be my husbands Grandfather Ronald Settle and he would like to find out for sure.
Thank you so much for your time Best wishes Kathryn
