Margee ...........

thanks. I looked and looked, but couldn't see a Blackburn being given as a birthplace. Of course, I didn't carefully look at that census. DOH!!

I agree, it was probably an error on the part of the enumerator, who made an assumption.

Alternatively, may be her mother went back home to her mother for the birth. Unless you have her birth certificate, you will not know exactly where she was born.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 25 Oct 2015 20:40

I think Cane is refering to the 1851 census where it says that Mary Ann was born in Blackburn but since she's living with grandparents in Blackburn it's possibly just a mistake to say that she was born there.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 25 Oct 2015 20:23

which Blackburn birth????

remember Proctor is not an unusual name, and Mary and Ann are also very common names

cane

cane Report 24 Oct 2015 09:38

I am really confused as to the Blackburn Birth though, due to the fact that everything I have so far is Manchester St Marys, St Denys,& St George based. Eg this marriage of my 4x great grandfather James Crook to Ellen Lythgo 26th April1801 Manchester St Marys. St Deny & St George...Their Son William Croock (misspelt) is my 3x great grandfather.1st dec 1822.Williams sister is Ellen (1820) who married John Proctor...

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Oct 2015 01:19

but you have already found Mary Ann on the 1851 Census living with her grandparents?

Or do you think that census is wrong?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 24 Oct 2015 01:17

But surely that's your Mary Ann that I posted on the 1851 census living with her Crook grandparents?
