I am trying to find this man in census record after 1861. His wife died in 1872 and his son James died c1896. I have been unable to find James Heyes 1853-c1896 who married Sarah Lowe to establish if they had any children.

That wasn't the only thing you had wrong, Mark. You also said that Mary Ann died 1872.

Perhaps you could explain how you're related to this family? You're evidently not descended from them because William & Mary Ann only seemed to have one child James and you don't know if he had children. So how are you related? Knowing that might help us determine if we've got the right family.

Where does Sarah Lowe come into this?? Is she your connection please?

A tree on Ancestry says they had a son Herbert born about 1885 in Oldham Lancs.

Now I don't know why but this tree owner has Sarah Lowe and husband James Lowe no marriage for this couple and no parents to either Sarah or James and just Herbert as a son and nothing past him either????????

Bridget In 1829 William Heyes is born and marries Mary A Jones 1822 who has son James Heyes 1853 who marries Sarah Lowe, and Annie... Unless proven wrong.
