b 1817 st james,Middlesex,London mother/father not known,joined the army 1837 at bow st, went all over the world after a time in Jamaica and nova scotia, he came home in 1850 he marr Catherine Elizabeth martin she says in all her census she was b in lunngberg America or nova scotia Canada. He went out to Gallipoli to the crimea in the early 1850s he fought in all battles alma,inkaman,balaclava, and servastipol he got the crimea medal plus 4 clasps he was badly wounded at sevastapol in the groin he was then a colour sgt in charge of the 38th regiment of foot, there flags [the reg kept the flag] .
he was sent to scuari barracks hospital in turkey feb 1855 [this was where Florence nightingale was] was not fit to travel home till march 3rd.
He walked with a limp he was then in the deport bn at Winchester he was discharged at horsegards 4 may 1858 and was appointed sgt major in 2nd west yorks militia at inphal barracks York, a Chelsea pensioner till he d 1888
catherine d 1923 they had 11 children.
he was awarded crimea medal with 4 clasps I am happy to say he is my 4xuncle.
what I would like you to do for me is who were james mum/dad and any thing on Catherine Elizabeth martin [her maiden name] born 1833??

I think you've got the wrong wife for James. Here is daughter, Ann's birth. Born at Great Minster Street, Winchester. Father was a sergeant 38th Reg.

there is no mention of james marr until Catherine in 1850 he joined the army 1837-1858, occ leather napper his sevice record says embarked zante Greece 1841, corfu Greece 1841, gibralter 1843, jamaica1846,nova scotia1848 there is a report of the Burmese war, the 38th regiment of footwas involved in small skirmishs all over the world till he sailed for the crimea.
Ihave seen all these bricklayers and his dad joseph but about Catherine martin I am not so sure except there marr 1850.
I think they had a girl child ann b about 1851 Winchester,if you look on 1861/1871 census of james stone/Catherine stone in York Yorkshire you will see I think it has got you guys like it got me I think this is a no goerto much time has passed ti just I thought may be I missed something but I really believe she came from nova scotia but I had a mate who has famil there he went to there BMD in nova but found nothing,,

you say he was marr twice 1839 to Judith 1821-1847 I have his army record,judith d 1847 he remarr 1850 ,he was in zante,corfu 1841,gibalter 1843,jamaica 1846,nova scotia then came home.
on them newspaper bit with the census it does name his wife as Kelly not martin I am now going supid I don't understand
so his wife is Kelly, [ I have worked on the bricklayer he is nothing to do with it] so where did his 2nd wife Catherine come from was it nova scotia, and hie mum/dad who are they, now I am lost[ to much info]
