Yes, I saw that one, and also thought it a possible even probable but wonder where Caroline was and her connection with the Dyes?

Thank you!

I'm now trying to find Samuel's baptism ........... not under Pratt or Spratt

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 10 Apr 2016 00:29

Did Caroline lie about her age???

We know from the marriage on FreeReg that Samuel was a Minor and she was Of Full Age

This is the only Caroline Smith baptism in Carlby between 1815 and 1828

I can't find a baptism for a Samuel Pratt, Spratt or Bratt!

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 10 Apr 2016 00:35

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm too tired to look at the moment- going to bed!

Oh, but just wanted to add, the William Smith on the 1841 in Carlby, - looking at the image I think he's with Henry Longfoot, not the Dyes.

I'll probably check back in the morning- night

more on the article re the death of a Samuel Pratt first posted by DET

This is from FMP ..........

iKprsev.—Uu Wednesday, the met., Mrs. Fowler's, the Crane inn. was held Ix-luro Mr. Selby. J. coroner, on view of the body Samuel Pratt, labourer, who died suddenly the field previous day. His brother, Pratt, that and deceased were working together the farm
25 September 1877 - Lincolnshire Free Press -

The farm was owned by Mr Wm Bullimore, Stow Gate, Deeping St Nicholas, and Pratt is described by the doctor as an unhealthy-looking man who had had typhoid fever 2 years prior that had laid him low for 3 months.

His brother was called George Pratt (it's missing from the precis above)

I don't know whether it is possible for someone without a sub to see the actual image from this link .........

http://search.findmypast.com.au/bna/viewarticle?id=bl%2f0001077%2f18770925%2f056

It is the last paragraph that was interesting .........

It was stated that the jury returned their fee to the widow.

then it says ...........

Deceased was 46 years of age. It will be remembered that about two years ago, we recorded the death of John Wright by falling from a haystack on Mr Bullimore's farm, dislocating his shoulder. He was the first husband of the now second time unfortunate widowed woman.

age 46 gives a birth date of ca 1821 ............... which doesn't square with Samuel being a Minor on his marriage to Caroline?? <<<<<<<<<<< OOPS

EDIT:-

1877 - 46 = 1831, not 1821.

This guy would be too young to have married in 1844, when he would have been only 13 or 14 years old!

So this is NOT the Samuel we've been looking for, unless the age reported is wrong.

safc ..............

nice find,

although he did say he was a Minor on his marriage to Caroline in 1844, and that baptism in 1818 would have meant he was well over 21

Re the marriage of John Pratt and Sarah Smith in 1820, posted earlier ...........

FMP has the actual Parish registers.

Lincolnshire, Parish Registers Surname Search, 1695-1911

The image shows that John was of the Parish of Deeping Fen, and was a Bachelor.

He signed his name. Sarah made her mark.

The witnesses were A Mossop (???) and John Kimberley .......

.... John Kimberley appeared to be a "professional" witness, and A Mossop had the same surname as the Curate, so neither was an apparent relation of either bride or groom

Lincolnshire, Parish Registers Surname Search, 1695-1911

Pratt
1844
Deeping St James
Baptisms

John Pratt son of Samuel and aroline, baptised October 20 1844, Samuel occupation Labourer. There are 3 names written quite faintly above the surname, as does every other birth on 2 pages.

I think they might be the names of the Godparents ...... and if so, might confirm the marriage of Sarah Pratt widow of John Pratt to Joseph Tyler, and thus be 1 tiny conformation of the parentage of Samuel

The names are, I think ............

Joseph Tyler, John Spires or Shires? and Cathr Smith

Pratt
1845
Deeping St James
Burials

John Pratt, Infant, buried April 20 1845

Pratt
1846
Deeping St James
Baptisms

John Pratt, son of Samuel and Caroline, baptised May 6 1846, Father Labourer

Names again written in, but very faint, and I can only make out a surname Pratt for one of the 2 men and Cath Smith

Pratt
1848
Deeping St James
Baptisms

George Pratt, son of Samuel and Caroline, baptised Oct 8 1848, Father Labourer.

Names written in are David Smith, Saml Pratt and Mary Ann Smith

Pratt
1855
Deeping St James
Burials

Caroline Pratt, buried November 16, age 30
