If my 1856 death is not correct, then maybe this one?

Deaths Mar 1857 (>99%)
O'Bryan John Newport M 11a 115

.........would make the marriage very quick after the death, but?

Eringobragh1916 Report 28 Oct 2016 23:39

Have tried to locate a marriage in Ireland for John Pat and Elizabeth but as you can imagine Needle in Haystack comes to mind ...the McGiff name is one I thought might be easy enough (not one I am familiar with) but the surname is scattered over the Island of Ireland...and O'Brien's... well given I am one its definitely head in the gas oven searching for them !!!

Morning Chris....Don't talk "Surname Variants" to me, my uncle had 3 variations of O'Brien on his Marriage Cert...!

Cannot locate Sarah Mc.despite "variations" to her name ..tried everything including initials only...

ShelleyRose Sarah McGiff's Death Cert would give name of her husband.....Elizabeths father.

Eringobragh1916 Report 29 Oct 2016 10:26

ShelleyRose....For some light relief from O'Brien the witnesses to Sarah and Wms marriage (1868)...Chris' post 28/[email protected]

John Holman Dunn married Elizabeth Caroline Fuller 1869 Holy Trinity Newport and subsequently went on to have lots of little Holman Dunn's

John and his family 1851....
Kings Parade St Woollos
William Dunn Head M 32 Putford, Devonshire
Fanny Dunn Wife F 31 Abbotsham, Devonshire
Frederick H Dunn Son M 7 Abbotsham, Devonshire
John H Dunn Son M 5 Bideford, Devonshire *****
Mary Ann H Dunn Daughter F 0 Newport, Monmouthshire

For some reason 1861/71 Census does not show on Familysearch.

1881 John and Caroline (she obviously prefers that to Elizabeth !!) are living in Dock Parade..

Eringobragh1916 and Chris Ho :) Thank you both for getting back with information today, I'm very grateful.

Yes I wondered where Sarah McGiff was between 1851-71, I've had so much trouble trying to keep up with my O'Brien family with their surname variants.just a nightmare

Thanks for trying to find them in Ireland, I wouldn't have had a clue where to start.I'll certainly look into getting Sarah McGiff d. cert (that was good thinking there thank you)

I'll also take a look at the newspaper references.

Many thanks again for all your help.

Eringobragh1916 Report 29 Oct 2016 12:10

ShelleyRose.....Well Sarah is hiding somewhere but if she is in Wales it s got me beat where she is located...I think a trawl in pastures further afield may be necessary...

PS.

The place where witnesses from Sarah Bryan's marriage lived at the time was Countybella Terrace.

Eringobragh1916 Report 29 Oct 2016 16:02

ShelleyRose....I have concentrated on Ann O'Brien (Widow of Michael )
ArgyllGran's posts 28/10 21.27

Ann remarried Dec quarter 1894 Chorlton to a William H Matthews cannot see him on 1901 Census....

Catherine O'Brien married a Peter Meace at St Banabas Church Openshaw in 1900 and family found 1901 living Canal St. as below....
Note Ann had a son Willie with husband William.
Not sure who Louise belongs to.

Annie M Matthews Head F 49 Gloucester, Gloucestershire
John O'Brien Son M 32 Gloucester, Gloucestershire
Annie O'Brien Daughter F 20 Openshaw, Lancashire
Willie Matthews Son M 5 Openshaw, Lancashire *****
Louise O'Brien Grand Daughter F 1 Openshaw, Lancashire
Peter Meace Son-In-Law M 24 Gorton, Lancashire
Catherine Meace Daughter F 24 Openshaw, Lancashire

I think daughter Elizabeth ? married a William Melody Jones Sept quarter 1893 Chorlton

Wonder if you can check 1911 Census for Annie..I have found her same area details age etc.but she is listed as Wife...wouldn't like to have given you wrong info.re her being widowed if she wasn't.

Eringobragh1916, Many thanks for your latest information, Sarah is certainly a mystery between 1851-71 census, hopefully she'll turn up sometime!

Also many thanks for finding Ann (Michael's widow) what a shame to lose her second husband so soon.Yes I'll certainly check out the 1911 census for Annie.

Thank you so much for all your help, I'm really so grateful.

ShelleyRose :-)

Eringobragh1916 Report 30 Oct 2016 16:29

ArgyllGran...Thank you for clarifying the marital status of Annie 1911.
I don't have access to images. 1901 showed her as Head and the 1911 as wife so we have cleared that up !!
I have edited my post relating to her being widowed and ShelleyRose will need to do the same on her post in response to that...
