Can I once again express my sincere thanks for all who have assisted with my original enquiry, and added useful information and pointed out my error.

Following the threads that have been added whilst I have been off line. I had connected the William Smithers in the 1901 census as being connected with my family. It is now patently obvious that he is a from different family, and the correct one is the family in Hunslet. I had not found the 1901 census for the family at Hunslet. I have checked the parish magazines for Titchmarsh church, and definitely the william born in 1966 was the son of John Smethers. The 1964 birth is not shown in the parish magazines.

Just catching up on the thread and think (as you and Margaret said) that the one living Yorkshire is correct for the 1864 Titchmarsh birth.

Yes - I think that is the one Bruce thinks is 'his' but I have followed him through and he is the other one who was born in 1866 - parents John + Sarah Ann.

We need Bruce to come back and to find out how he has worked back to 'his' William so that we can confirm which one he should be following.

There is point in doing much more until he returns.

William Smethers born 17.4.1864 in Titchmarsh, Northants. He was living in Lambeth London in 1901. But the Census shows his name as Smithers.
He married in February 1891, but his wife died in June 1891. I suspect in childbirth
as their son was born in (Apr-Jun) 1891 and was baptised on 7.8.1891.
I therefore was hoping that he had emigrated to Canada after marrying Emily, but as you can see this was not the case.

Don't leave us in suspense Bruce - what line is it that you are following?
