Most of my family research was done 2004 to 2008, when IGI was free and a fund of knowledge around Parish Records. Am I correct in thinking that Find My Past now provides this sort of info, for a price?

In doing my tree, including all the families of all my grand children. (now in excess of 6000 - the families, not the grand children lol!) I became an addict for the sleuthing and have done much research for other people. I would like to continue this pastime but the IGI of yesteryear no longer exists, hence my present question.

Thank you Kucinta and safc, I will check to see if those addresses are within those I already have but my interest is in "findmypast.ie" who recently sent me an email about their site.

I have checked my list and I still use https://familysearch.org/search/collection/igi but it is nothing like it use to be - not going back to c.1565!

Check Births, Marriages, Deaths (on 'Search', top right of page here) should be same as FMP for coverage of Counties

(above should be the same as FMP, see counties listed)

(another above, think that has been used on some of your queries before)

Hi Chris, I have tried the web address you gave, which I recognised as one of the places that I use, but it couldn't find Thomas Field 1763 !!

Chris Ho :) Report 9 Dec 2016 15:12

No it's on FMP...(Parents Thomas & Rachel, of the Lobster House)

Yorkshire Baptisms Transcription
Archive Borthwick Institute for Archives
Archive reference PR-BOSL 4

(so probably worth subscribing if you have more)

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Bossall/more.html

"LOBSTER HOUSE, an Inn, in the township of Claxton, and parish of Bossall; 2¼ miles W. of Bossall, 7¼ miles from York, 10¾ from Malton, 12 from Easingwold. Here the Magistrates for the wapentake of Bulmer hold their Meetings."

Thank you Chris (I didn't know about Lobster House) but it is FMP that I am interested in and, as you say, may be worth considering a subscription - to satisfy the addiction ....

Father's Name Thomas Field

Same record is also on FMP- which also has image

Potty

Potty Report 10 Dec 2016 12:01

FMP does have some parish records but only for certain areas. It is good for Shropshire but not Dorset (for which Ancestry is good.). Also Ancestry has PR for some areas of Yorkshire and lots for Surrey, Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire. Most of these have images.

One area that is well served by familysearch is the North East. It has images of the Bishops Transcripts for Durham diocese but they aren't transcribed so you have to search through the images page by page for each church

Frances

Frances Report 30 Dec 2016 10:12

Thank you Margaret, Austin and Potty, the person for whom I was doing the research seems to have lost interest so there seems to be little point in taking it further. I shall have to wait for somebody new to have a request that will feed my addiction!

Check out FS's UK collections at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_KINGDOM_IRELAND

The IGI is still there, although I never use it now. I think it's been supseded by their other collections.

Incidentally, I didn't find your Thomas Field on the IGI. I did find him in:
England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975

Indexing Project (Batch) Number C10572-2
