Hi Chris,

There are 2 Jeremiah Collins - father and son. The first one came from Ireland late 1840's early 1850's. This is the Jeremiah that married Honora Malone (born Ireland also) in 1853 in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil. Jeremiah and Honora then went on to have 4 children - Jeremiah (born 1861) being the youngest. Jeremiah Senior then died in 1862. Jeremiah Junior went on to marry Elizabeth James in 1882 (yes, eldest son was John). So, I am tending to believe Honora did go on and re marry - it's just finding out who she married from a couple of options. (Thanks for link to Newspaper Library Wales - found a couple of erm interesting articles ;-)

Have you found a Burial Record for that Jeremiah 1862?...

Unfortunately, Jeremiah died in 1862 - at least a Jeremiah Collins died at Penyrhiw, (the place the family lived in 1861 Census). Age about right too - 33 ( I have the death certificate). I think I am right to assume it's him as I can't see any other Jeremiah Collins living at Penyrhiw. Marriage is correct though ( I have the certificate).

I hope not too Maddie! I guess I'll have to order the marriage certificate between her and Patrick Connell to confirm if she was a widow named Collins. You guys are great!!

Rhian Report 28 Jan 2017 21:28

Would really appreciate any help in trying to trace Honora Collins (nee Malone) born 1826 Ireland (Cork) She moved to Merthyr Tydfil, Wales by 1853, as she married Jeremiah Collins also from Ireland in the Roman Catholic Church Dowlais (I have obtained marriage cert dated 09.08.1853). Found next on the 1861 Census living at Penyrhiw, Ystradyfodwg with Jeremiah and 4 children - Ellin or Ellen, Ketty or Kitty, Hanrour or Honora and Jeremiah. I believe her husband Jeremiah died 01 March 1862 at Penyrhiw (cert. obtained). I am having trouble trying to locate her and children after this. Although Jeremiah (son) - my great grand father has been picked up from the 1881 Cencus with his wife and son. I have considered that she may have re married. Wondering how she would have survived with 4 young children to provide for? Any help would be great!! Practically given up on tracing where exactly they came from in Ireland though - but that's another story!!
