Oh ! I will look for another Henry/Caroline marriage but maybe Henry and Caroline recorded as Blissett in 1841 never married. Be good to be able to trace both paternal and maternal lines for James.

lMy maternal gt grandmother had eight

children all born out of wedlock but with the same father.

I won't be back on GR until this evening as down to Southampton and Portsmouth today. Hopefully the high winds won't close the old Severn bridge.

Thanks Austin for your help .

I think you can rule out the Henry Clarke/ Caroline Diggins marriage- the certificate is on Ancestry. Henry is listed as bachelor living Edward Street

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 3 Feb 2017 08:25

The baptisms for Henry, Mary Ann & Joseph are on Ancestry. I don't see baptisms for Caroline (c1846) or James.

I'm not sure about the Diggins birth. Without the certificate it's hard to be sure, but I suspect that none of the children were registered. Joseph's baptism gives an exact DOB but I still can't find his birth in the indexes.

If the Diggins birth was correct that would mean Henry had married a Caroline, she died, then he married another Caroline (Diggins) in 1848, and then she must have died before 1861 because Henry is then listed as a widower :-S

I may be wrong but I don't think it's likely- where are the deaths for the Carolines?

Thanks Austin. It's good to have a Clark family to trace. Wish I could say the same for Caroline Diggins I can't find anything on her at all so far. Mary Ann Clark born1839 has Caroline as mother. Assume this is Caroline Diggins.

This hobby is so addictive!! I have to get my granddaughter up and to school.now.

Once again thankyou.

Thanks Austin,

There is a marriage for Henry Clark and Caroline Diggins in 1848 and a birth for James to Henry and Caroline formally Diggins in 1848.
Perhaps it was a second marriage for Henry.

Many thanks for your help

So the 1861 with James in Princes Street is surely the correct family (in 1851 they had Hannah Blisset, mother, with them)? You now have it sorted?

Henry and Caroline with his mother in 1841- listed under Blisset although children baptised Clark.

What address is recorded for James on his marriage to Emma?

JPK

JPK Report 2 Feb 2017 10:14

Hi Austin,
You have the two families that could have the right James but So far I haven't been able to link the James who married Emma to either. I know the marriage to Emma is correct as its in the Wallis family bible. Sadly there are no more details on James to point me in the right direction . Trying to find births for him which might tie in was the only way I could think of going. Thankyou for helping.

JPK Report 2 Feb 2017 09:29

Thankyou all . The one given true fact I know about James is that he married Emma Naomi Wallis July 5th 1869. His father recorded as Henry a labourerEmma's father William a carpenter. The witnesses were Henry Hart and Caroline Clark.who could be mother or sister.

There is another Clark family in 1851 with Henry head wife Caroline John 10 and James either 3 or 6 depending on site. Caroline Paget had an illegitimate son in 1841 and married Henry in 1844.

I have to go now but will be back as any help to pinpoint the right James will be much appreciated.

Chris Ho :) Report 2 Feb 2017 07:50

From that link I posted earlier, below was on it, not sure if JPK saw it...

Chris :)

Henry Clarke married Caroline Paget in 1844 St Matthew Bethnal Green. A witness at the marriage was David Thacker. Caroline's father was Matthew Paget, labourer.
The Henry & Caroline's son James married Sarah Ann Thacker, daughter of David.

The Clarkes and Thackers were both living on Mail Coach Yard. I've assumed, though haven't worked out the details, that these Pagets were related. (there's a plausible looking baptism for a William Paget, son of Matthew, in Shoreditch 1819)

Both the Clarke and Thacker families were poor but surviving -- they were both subject to Shoreditch settlement examinations. Matthew seems to have been in and out of the workhouse.
