I have found a record on ancestry.co.uk which reads...

Name:Richard France
Age:18
Birth Date:
abt 1813
Birth Place:Leigh, Lancaster
Military Date:12 May 1831
Unit:84th Foot Soldiers, 1st Battalion

I would very much appreciate any further records were possible in locating any possible marriage or children and death of the above. Many thanks in advance.

Don't know if this might be him. Remember that ages over 15 on the 41 census were rounded down to nearest 5 or 0 so his age of 25 could have been 25-30 making him born 1811-1816.

If he did marry again he used his own name as a fathers name - being illegitimate unless he knew the true identity of his natural father

NO .... it can't be the Richard that we've been looking for ............ she was 51 when she died in 1854, so that means she was born in ca 1803.
