Mary, it's a shame we'll never know but that's life!

Austin, no upset was caused at all... Infact I think my dad was a little disappointed when I told him there were no more siblings!
Thank you again for all the detective work you did for us, we really appreciate it :)

AustinQ Report 9 Feb 2017 06:05

Apologies Sara- I think you're correct about Christine being the only child. Sorry if it caused any upset.

When looking at the indexes I was confusing Brentford and Brentwood.
-------------------------------------

Just wanted to add that Catherine Jane Green had a brother George Adam Green born in 1864. He's only listed with Catherine in 1871. In 1881 he's with relations of his Mum- they are builders:

1881 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
13, Brunswick Road, Tottenham, Edmonton, Middlesex, England
Arthur Rathbone Head Married Male 22 1859 Builder Hackney, Middlesex,
Emma Rathbone Wife Married Female 22 1859 - Hackney, Middlesex,

George Green Visitor Single Male 17 1864 Labourer Hackney, Middlesex,

I think Catherine Jane Green made up the fathers name as she was unmarried at the time of the baptism.
Why other than marrying a man by the name of Green give her name as Green which was her maiden name and the name she married John Edwin Flood in.

Thank you again for the extra information AustinQ and Kucinta.
I've spoken to my dad and he really doesn't know when his grandmother died, if his grandfather remarried and he has know idea about any other half siblings besides Christine!
He is overwhelmed by all the information, as am I! I'm currently writing an email to him so he can understand it better.
It would be nice to know if John 'Green'/Walker the builder was his father, again I should get marriage certificates and possibly a birth certificate.

AustinQ, may I ask how you found out that there may be other siblings for my father?

Thank you , Sara

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 8 Feb 2017 14:40

Yes, it really does tie in John Bertee/Bertie Green with John B Walker.

I do wonder if the father was a builder surnamed Walker....

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 8 Feb 2017 13:47

No problem Kucinta- it was a good find, and great that the dates tie in.

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 8 Feb 2017 13:42

Oops, sorry about the wrong birth date on the baptism, I'll blame it on my epiretinal membranes :-(

But thanks for spotting & correcting it AustinQ.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 8 Feb 2017 10:31

Oh- and just one more thing!

The baptism of John B Green that Kucinta posted- the actual birth date is November 17 1882 (not the 19th as was posted)- which matches the details for John Bertram Walker on the 1939 register.

Name: John Bertee Green
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 3 Jun 1883
Born: 17th November 1882 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Father's name: John Green
Mother's name: Kate
Abode: 3 Charley Street

So much information!! I can't tell you how grateful I am that you've done this for me. I'm going to have to talk to my dad to get more information - when did his grandparents die etc. I am positive there were no other children besides Christine unless there and they didn't survive?
It's all very, very interesting!
I shall get back to you once I get more details.

Thank you again!

I suspect that John Bertram married again. He is with May in Putney until 1932 on the electoral registers.

Kathlyn marries in 1936 BROMLEY Kent- so perhaps the family were now living there?

Based on this, there is this possible death for May:
First name(s) MAY
Last name WALKER
Gender Female
Birth year 1883
Age 50
Death quarter 2
Death year 1933
District Bromley
County Kent
Volume 2A Page 630

and this possible marriage for John a year later:

Marriages Sep 1934
Marshall Florence M Walker Bromley 2a 2213
Walker John B Marshall Bromley 2a 2213
--------------------------------------------------

If it is our John (and I suspect it is), this is him in 1939:

Marshall Household La Casita W Pleasent , Orpington U.D., Kent, England
Sydney (R) Marshall 25 Apr 1876 Male Painting Manager & B??? Married
Sydney Richardson (Ronald) Marshall 15 Jan 1905 Male Incapacitated (Mental) Single
Marguerite Ede (Marshall) 25 Apr 1913 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Single
John B Walker 17 Nov 1882 Male Technical Assistant (Mis? Supply) Married
Florence M Anderson (Walker) 30 Apr 1908 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married

(Florence has both Donaldson and Anderson surnames added later)

Florence married 1957 Surrey

John Bertram and May were living at 58 Larbert Road upto 1932- I don't see them after this.

County or Borough: Wandsworth
Ward or Division/Constituency: Putney, Streatham and Central
Street address: 58 Larbert Road
-----------------------------------

This is Kathlyn on the 1939 register, with first husband Francis Ambrose Andrews (Name is Kathlyn on original):

Andrews Household 65 Wills Crescent , Twickenham M.B., Middlesex, England
Frances A Andrews 22 Nov 1903 Male Electrician Married
Kathryn M Andrews 11 Jan 1915 Female Unpaid Domestic Married
Closed Record

Both Francis and Kathlyn wer still at this address on the electoral registers in 1947.

Looking at the birth indexes it is possible that Christine wasn't their only child.

Kathlyn was in SA by 1949 as this is when she and Francis were divorced (from SA National Archives):

DESCRIPTION ILLIQUID CASE DIVORCE FRANCIS AMBROSE ANDREWS VERSUS KATHLYN MAY (BORN WALKER).
STARTING 1949
ENDING 1949
---------------------------------------

Kathlyn died 1996 Kent UK

Apologies if this has already been posted, but re the John Bertie Green born 1882 to Catherine Green, as posted by Maryb, this is his baptism.

Births Dec 1882 Green John Bertie Edmonton 3a 308

Baptism

Name: John Berta Green<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Record Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 3 Jun 1883
Father's name: John Green<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Mother's name: Kate Green<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Parish or Poor Law Union: Tottenham St Ann
Borough: Haringey
Register Type: Parish Registers

Image has his second name as Bertee, not Berta.
Birthdate 19th Nov 1882<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Address 3 Charles St.
Father's occupation, builder.

So was the father made up?

EDIT: if the father was made up to save face, he doesn't seem to have been based on Catherine/Kate's father, John William Green, as he was a domestic servant on his marriage to Elizabeth Rathbone in 1860. So is 'John Green, builder', possibly a John Walker, Builder?

AustinQ, I've also looked on the 1939 register and found none of them. Thank yo for help so far

Prickly Holly and Shirley - That definitely appears to be my great-uncle, although we don't know about any travel to the USA. We do know that he married a lady called Beryl, had a daughter named Prudence and possibly (?) two twin boys and they were definitely in the UK. That's all on that front.
Thank you both for your help :)
