Larne isn't a great a distance from Ballymoney? It was just a suggestion that they may have returned to Antrim as Stewart was from that area. The death for Edith is not confirmed.

AG- I don't have access to FMP, can you see if anyone is listed living with Edith Helen Sharpe in Larne on the electoral register (I don't think there is?)

Using surname Sharpe and mother's surname Bradley you can search for possible children here:

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

There are other children born Hull, but given where Stuart and Edith were living in 1947, I think the male birth for that year in Halifax is most likely.

I cannot give his name, as he may still be living.

I think I may have found the son :
Ian H Sharpe b. Apr- Jun
1947 in Halifax
Mother Bradley

Also death of an Ian Sharpe :
b.15 th April 1947
Died Feb 2005 in Sheffield

Now just need to find out if Stewart had any more children ???
And see what I can find about his son Ian ??

Apart from the 1947 Halifax birth mentioned by A, there were three Sharpe/Bradley births in Hull (1948, 1951, 1954) - although there was a Sharpe /Bradley couple who married in Hull in 1930, so they might be their children.

One in 1958 in Cheltenham is probably the child of another couple who married in Gloucester in 1957.
One in 1962 in Whitehaven will be the child of a different Sharpe/Bradley couple who married in Whitehaven in 1962.

So IF they had a child in the UK, the 1947 one looks most likely.

Do you know if they did actually have a child, Sue?

Sorry, AQ, I don't have a sub for FMP either.

It doesn't help, but in 1951 they were in Yorkshire (as already known):

Edith Helen Sharpe
in the West Yorkshire, England, Electoral Registers, 1840-1962
Name: Edith Helen Sharpe
Year: 1951
Country: England
County: West Yorkshire
Parliamentary Division: Sowerby
Place of Abode: 9 Sunnybank Crescent
Reference Number: SOW:16/5

Living with Stuart (sic) Hamilton Sharpe.

In 1945, Edith was at that same address - but no sign of Stewart - presumably stil in the Army.

AQ has already posted the records for 1946-47 - same address, but both Edith and Stewart there.

Hi Gran
Thanks for this.
Yes we know there was a child before 1953 but the couple were apparently separated by then.
So obviously I wonder if there was a remarry and possibly other children.
The 1951 info is news to me as A went up to 1948 and I think he said neither of them were at that address after 1949.
Yet they are together in 1951.
As I said they were apart 2 years later.
What is FMP ?
Regards Suex

A colleague who no longer has a subscription to genes asked me to post this as it may be of use:

Samuel Hamilton Sharpe
May 25,1903
Bushmills
Father: Robert Sharpe from Clogher North Bushmills
Mother: Maggie Sharpe (nee Hamilton) from Clogher

Apologies for missing them in 1951- they were not listed at the address in 1950 or 1954 and I had assumed that they weren't there. in the intervening years.

Patchem- details of Samuel already posted

Susan- FMP is Find My Past. It seems you had more possible info on Stewart that on your original post re a possible break up of his marriage.

I did not post the birth details of Stewart's son as he may still be living. Are you sure you have the correct death?

There is an Ian Hamilton Sharpe born April 1947 listed to 2016 living in Surrey with his wife and family. I think this is more likely to be the correct person.

Re remarrying -

as the DOB on the Antrim death record is correct, that seems to be the correct death, so clearly Edith didn't remarry.

I can't see any sign, in UK or Ireland at least, of Stewart /Stuart remarrying - unless he did so in some unexpected part of the country.

There are a few marriages of Stewart/Stuart Sharpes without middle initial marrying, but not in either Ireland or Yorkshire.
I would be surprised if he married without his middle initial being given.

Thanks again everyone for so much help. Very very grateful.
Sorry about the initial post not including the possibility of a break up but we weren't 100% sure it was permanent or relevant.
AQ : I may not have the correct death for Ian as I presumed that Ian Sharpe (no H )
birth April 1947, dying in Sheffield could have been him. Probably not then.
I understand about Ian possibly still being alive and your obvious reluctance to give details. I am sending you a private email as you may have found him in Surrey.

Thanks again for all the help. We finally got there. I accidentally stumbled upon the son of Stewart Hamilton Smith as he was researching his fathers family. So my husband has found his half brother.
