James Williams and his brother Benjamin Williams - my great grandfather and his brother were born there in 1851 and 1858. Does anyone know where Sandy Hole is? I know their father was Benjamin Williams ( his name is on my g.grandfather's marriage certificate)........but then I'm stuck!!

There doesn't seem to be any such place in that area?

Where have you found it mentioned that this was their birthplace - was it on a census? Is so, could you post it for reference please?

Do you have the family together on any census?

What was father Benjamin's occupation ?

Do you know who their mother was please?

I can't find any trace of this place in Radnorshire. Could it be the name of a house?

Radnorshire, Sandy Hole is listed on the 1881 census as birth place for both James and his brother Benjamin.

Their father Benjamin Williams is listed as Bailiff on the marriage certificate for James and his wife Hannah Tedds.

I can't find James Wiliams in any census before 1881.

I see in the 1901 and 1911 James Williams he is listed as being born in Brampton, Radnorshire. Does that make sense? Could there be a Sandy Hole near a place called Brampton?

I live in Canada so not so easy for me to research the actual place,

I can see no births registered for the boys under those names and no marriage for a Benjamin Williams to a Hannah Tedds?

Do you have any more details please?

Dea x

OOOpps - It seems to have been James who married Hannah Tedds, not Benjamin.

I did find the census for 1861 where there was a Benjamin Williams but he was born in Abbeycwmhir, Radnorshire, Wales. I did not know if this was near the Sandy Hole listed on the 1881 census.

Maddie - you are correct he did move to Nottinghamshire.

Dea - it was James Williams who married Hannah Tedds

Mary - thank you for your suggestion re the Herefordshire border. Will look into that.

Thank you for all your suggestions. Must head to bed as it's 3.24 in the morning here.
You know how one can get caught up in the search! Will check in again In the morning. :-) :-)
