Thank you Maddie and there was me thinking it was only the car was spelt Morris!

If you look on Findmypast for births just putting in the first name "Morris" with no surname there are more than 60,000 records (although some of them are duplicated) so it's not an unusual spelling of the name.

EDIT - There is the image of the burial record and it definitely says Moses and then in brackets Morris. Perhaps he just prefered the name Morris. His abode was given as 19 Royal Crescent, Whitby (which is certainly a lovely place to live - the house was up for sale a year ago when Google captured it for Streetview. Beautiful sea views).

Thanks AustinQ, so possibly Moses father then, although age is out by 5 years if the one I posted in the1861 census is the same person.

There seem to be women from Poland/Russia with the name Toba so think that Soba has been mistranscribed in the 1861 census and should read Toba

It's possible that Harold Greenwood might have been Moses Gladstone's son-in-law.

On the image of the 1861 census the name is definitely Toba rather than Soba as the first letter of the name is the same as the first letter of others on the page named Thomas.
