I think I know the answer to this but wanted a "second pair of eyes"

Martha was born in Goodleigh (Barnstaple) Devon in 1870. In 1891 she is a servant in Swansea and in 1901 she is in Breconshire with her husband Albert Edward Harris.

There are several children born Breconshire, Bedford and Neath. In 1911, they are in Margam in Wales, married 18 years, 4 children still living, 3 having died.

I can't find a marriage which, for 1893, must be somewhere in Wales. And I can't find the third child who has died - I have Albert Ernest born/died 1896 and Albert Edward born 1903 died 1906.

So can anyone find a marriage and/or the missing child?

Jude

Thanks guys...yes I had George Baden as the death and then found there were two George Badens....strange! But I did wonder about Alfred in Bedford...

But I am guessing you have all come to the same conclusion as me..they weren't really married :-)

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 26 Aug 2017 17:21

Weird though that there could be TWO George Baden Harris's! There doesn't appear to be a family connection (in my case) - maybe some nod to Lord Baden-Powell????

It's so annoying that ancestors were so inconsiderate to us family researchers lol :-)

Yes, probably - re Baden Powell.

The Siege of Mafeking ended in May 1900.

A quick look on FreeBMD for births from 4th qr 1899 - 1910 with Baden as a first name reveals dozens of them!
Lots more will have it as a middle name, such as the two Georges.
Some have Powell as a middle name as well.

By comparison, in the 5 years before Dec qr 1899, there was only one!

Interesting......1901 census has him a a watchmaker....have based this on my cousin's tree (his family as opposed to mine)
....quick rethink needed

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 27 Aug 2017 17:43

Made the classic mistake of taking my cousin's tree as read :-(

Re tracked today....his grandfather was Frederick and his mother was Martha..from a WW1 military record where the address matched the address of his marriage. But his father, on the certificate which I have, is William a bridge builder. Frederick was born in Neath.

So have found marriage of William to Martha (Gertrude Shoebrook) and have found them in 1901 (him born Exeter, where they married) and in 1911 (him born Cardiff).

So can anyone find him before 1901? I believe he was born 1843 to her 1865...so maybe he was married before? Thinking of getting certificate to clarify. So only "bridge builder/constructor to go on..

I don't know when he died..she is shown as NOK in 1919 but whether this is relevant or not I do not know

Jude
