sorry, Thomas Sanders was named as father on Mary Sanders Baptism october 1774.She would have been 25 when she married Joseph in 1800. Joseph was 61 when he died in 1842 so must have been born around 1780/81 making him around 20 at marriage.Did they round up ages on census..Mary was 60 on 1841 census and 73 on 1851 and the only check on Joseph is the 1841 where he is also 60..presumably they took this for his death in 1842 and said he was 61.
I did find a Joseph Exall b.1743 Oldbury Shropshire his parents Joseph and Mary Exall...perhaps try to find a marriage for the 1743 Joseph and work from there.??
(BMD RG4 2492)if this makes any sense .

Thanks but that would have made him just 15 when he married in 1800.
I was hoping that Joseph Exall born about 1781 came from around Portsea as did his wife Mary Sanders. Someone found her fathers name on the marriage cert but not his.

Thank you.that is a great start. They move about a lot. I wonder what he did for a living before Tenterden. Perhaps he was always a printer and his son Joseph followed him into the trade. sonya

Thank you all for searching
. I would still like to know where this family were between marriage in 1800 and arrival at Tenterden in about 1810. Their eldest daughter Mary seems to have been born at Limehouse ..Poplar born 1807 on the census 1841/2/ Did Joseph work there at that time? He seems to have had so many occupations and reinvented himself. There was a newpaper advert from a property company in London appointing him as land agent to deal with farm sales in the Tenterden area.in his early days in Kent.

There are a lot of interesting newspaper articles about Joseph Exall. It would appear he was Vestry clerk and said he lived in the parish since 1810.
